KitLaurie’s Kaylee (found here) is just too cute in her fancy gown and crooked smile. She looks all ready to head out to a swanky shindig in her outfit–that comes complete with gloves and a yummy strawberry. Kaylee was made using a pattern found here. Or if you’re not a crocheter, don’t despair. KitLaurie takes commissions over on Tumblr.
According to Geek Girl Diva over at Fashionably Geek, “Apparently, fans who have been making and selling their versions of the Jayne hat for roughly the last 10 years are being sent “cease and desist” notices from Fox. It seems Ripple Junction now has an official license to make the Jayne hat (shown at right, the one sold through ThinkGeek for $24.99) and that means independent Browncoats who might be making and selling them are now infringing on the license for a simple patterned hat.” BTW, as of 04/13/13, there were 60 handmade Jayne hats for sale.
The Browncoats of the world did not approve and ThinkGeek took action:
“Browncoats, we hear your concerns about the cease and desist on Etsy Jayne Hat sellers!
“We weren’t involved in that process, but we have reached out to FOX and we’ve heard what you’ve had to say. As a result, we’ve decided to donate the profits from all Jayne Hat sales on our site to Can’t Stop the Serenity, a Browncoat charity dear to ThinkGeek’s heart that raises funds and awareness in support of Equality Now. We’ll continue making that donation until we run out of stock.
“We hope the Hero of Canton himself would approve.”
This was Think Geek’s udpated on 04/11/13: “So, we got Fillioned. Nathan Fillion tweeted a link to our blog post about our Jayne Hat donation to Can’t Stop the Serenity (thank you, Nathan!) and our blog couldn’t handle the traffic, taking the whole site down with it (thank you, Nathan?).”
Take a look at this amazing embroidered sketchbook made by Michelle (spikefan) on Craftster. Fireflies are usually caught in jars, so what is the greatest geeky alternative? Serenity in a jar of course!
This week’s treasury is a tribute to possibly the best show ever to only last one season, Firefly.
As usual, be sure to click on the picture to be taken to the treasury.
Just over 3 weeks until Halloween (at the time of this posting) – do you know what your (or your kids’) Halloween costume will be?
In case you’re still in the “seeking Divine inspiration” phase, let me point you to this very divine Firefly costume set. MADE. WITH. DUCT. TAPE. I saw this post first on MyDisguises.com, but it looks like the conversation started over on FireflyFans.net. Toledo392 posted there, requesting votes for his entry into Duck Brand’s “Stuck at the Prom” contest. He wrote:
“In this contest, high school students from all over the country create prom outfits using duct tape. Ten finalists are selected from all of the entries, and online voting determines the winner. To demonstrate my devotion to Firefly, I created my duct tape ensemble inspired by Mal’s tux and Kaylee’s dress from Shindig. These outfits made it into the top ten.
I used over 20 rolls of duct tape, and had to overcome laws of physics (all those ruffles are heavy!) as well as wear the outfit in Phoenix summer temperatures exceeding 107 degrees.”
Very impressive, and indeed – very shiny.
In honor of Adam Baldwin’s birthday on Friday (February 27th), I wanted to share something beyond the iconic hat he wore as Jayne Cobb in “Firefly.” We’ve shared a number of different variations of the Jayne Cobb hat over the years, such as a Doctor Who version, a scarf version, a cupcake version, and a lip balm cozy version.
Today I bring you the plushie version – as in, sitting atop a cute Jayne Cobb chibi plush, as created by Cristina, aka ViciousPretty.
Cristina shared her creation over on DeviantArt, where she also has an extensive gallery of other adorable plushie creations, such as Gandalf, Namor, and a number of Mass Effect characters.
Cristina’s Jayne plushie is so cute and cunning, I just want to take him right to my bunk and cuddle. What character have you created in plush form, or have plans to attempt?
Also, be sure to wish Adam a happy birthday on Friday via Twitter!
