My Bouncy Neighbor Totoro for Geek Babies

Totoro bouncer by Cation Designs

I get a little thrill when I see crafty projects that repurpose/upcycle a useful something into a geekier version of a useful something. Case in point: Cation Design’s Totoro variation on an existing “Snugabunny” bouncer. I mean, really, if a manufacturer can make up something called a Snugabunny, it equally stands to reason it could be morphed into a Totoro.

For those unfamiliar, “My Neighbor Totoro” is a highly popular anime movie written and directed by the world-renowned Hayao Miyazaki, who also made “Spirited Away,” “Princess Mononoke,” and “Howl’s Moving Castle.”

Cation’s post walks readers through her creative process, including crafting a fleece-lined Totoro-shaped slip cover and dangling Soot Sprites.

LadyKatka from Ravelry made this incredibly huge Totoro. Seriously, he weighs 14.8 lbs. For those people without Ravelry accounts, do not despair, all the photos are on Flickr too. It’s worth clicking through for the rest of the photos – my favourite is the one where he takes up her entire backseat.

Pokémon Easter Eggs!

Pokemon Easter Eggs

It’s Easter!! And what better way to celebrate than an Easter egg hunt with Pokémon eggs?! Gotta find ’em all!

Yaltro on Flickr made this fantastic selection of Pokémon Easter eggs, with food dye, sharpies and white out. The first lot were made in 2011 and the second lot in 2012… I hope there’s a third lot on the way this year!

Why not give it a go yourself this Easter? My favourites from this lot are Psyduck and Snorlax! Do you have any other ideas for geeky Easter Eggs?

No, it’s not international food week on Geek Crafts. Around here, the sun is trying its best to keep the ponds from freezing, but it’s not working out too well. Bikini season seems years away. Plus, this weekend’s Easter. Eggs! Chocolate! Meat! It’s the perfect time of the year for food!

This Friday round-up I’d like to focus on kyaraben, short for character bento. Let’s see what Wikipedia can tell us about it…

Geeky Cookie Cutters!

Totoro and Oliver

I found some AMAZING cookie cutters on WarpZone Prints on Etsy, and I just could not resist trying them out!! So, I ordered a few and here’s the finished result! I absolutely love them!! I also have a Mr. Drippy cutter, but I wasn’t able to get the cutter to come out very well, so that needs some practice I think! Athey Moravetz from WarpZone prints makes all the cutters with a 3D printer, and can make custom cutters as well as all the ones in the store!
