Vespas As Works of Art

Verguy posted an album of photos over to Imgur recently, of Vespa scooters as swivel chairs.

They were created by Bel and Bel in Italy. Their scooter chair is made from original parts of the legendary Italian scooter from the 80s’s. They recline, have a reinforced internal structure and a base with hydraulic positions to regulate and adjust the height. Prices start at 1,470 Euros or $1,650 USD.

Next up, is a hand-crafted wooden Vespa, complete with an actual motor.

While some turn to new paint jobs or accessories, craftsman Carlos Alberto took a more labor intensive route when designing a Vespa for his daughter, resulting in a beautiful motor scooter named after her (Vespa Daniella) boasting a sleek, wooden finish. Every part of the fully functional, hardwood scooter was hand-crafted by Alberto from the frame and handles to the solid wood seat. Parts that couldn’t be constructed out of wood such as the engine and gas tank were still carefully tucked away behind eye-catching layers of the richly stained material.

Make A Keyboard Kitty!

KeyboardKitty

Looking for a Mother’s Day gift idea you can make yourself? How about this sweet Keyboard Cat from Urban Threads? The tutorial takes you step-by-step through making your keyboard wrist rest. They use two separate hand embroidery patterns (available for purchase, $1 each) to embellish the cat’s face (the glasses) and the front of the wrist rest (ehem . . . what I would say is the kitty’s posterior) with the words “I’m adorkable”.  It’s a fun and simple project that is bound to be a hit with anyone, especially hard-working moms.  The hand embroidery and stitching on this one is pretty simple, and I’d say it’s safe for any beginner to tackle. Plus, you could use just about any combination of fabric color and thread color too.

Let me just say first of all, I am not a painter, so I greatly admire anyone that can paint.

That being said, look at these shoes! They were painted by LavaBubbles over the course of five months. Unfortunately, there’s no other information available about these great shoes.

However, if you’re artistically inclined to created your own Ghost With The Most shoes, check out Deviant Art for some Netherworld-based inspiration. Or go on over to ChrissysBasement at Etsy to score yourself a pair of ready-made shoes.

Paper Piecing in a Flash

FlashPaperPiecing

Designer Michelle Thompson has come up with another amazing paper piecing pattern for quilters, this one featuring everyone’s favorite speedster, the Flash. You can find the pattern on Fandom in Stitches, along with dozens more superhero and pop culture paper piecing patterns. I think what makes Michelle Thompson’s patterns so striking is her use of decorative stitching to enhance the details (take a look at all the line work–it’s all satin stitching done by machine!). This pattern is definitely not for the faint of heart, so if you’re new to paper piecing, I’d suggest looking for something with fewer pieces to start with.  You can find all sorts of ideas and even tutorials on Fandom in Stitches.  Go forth and conquer, quilters!

Harley Quinn and The Joker Take a Selfie

PBIvX69

Mark Hamill has been my favorite version of the Joker for the longest time, so I geeked out a little bit, as both a fan girl and as a crocheter, when I saw this blanket that prettigirl2203 made about a month ago. The finished product is 6’9″ X 7’2″.

She used a perler bead pattern as her inspiration and her pattern came from Kandi Patterns. As far as the crocheting itself goes, prettigirl2203 made 3,600 squares. Each one measures 1.5″ squared. For those who crochet, she created the squares by chaining 6, (turn and half double crochet 5) X5. It looks like she used a simple acrylic yarn, which holds up really well for blankets and especially in the washer.

I Find Your Lack of Coffee Disturbing . . .

Star Wars printable

I often tell folks how I’m a coffee-powered robot, so is it any wonder that these caught my attention: They’re Free Star Wars Printables from Jamie at the blog Some of This and That, and they’re hilarious.  From pithy quotes, like “May the froth be with you” and “It’s a frap!”, if you love coffee and Star Wars, you’re going to love these free printables.  According to the blog, they’re sized to print out and fit into an 8″ x 10″ frame.  Go forth and print! And may the coffee be with you.
