Jayne’s grenade

I am always pleased to find references to the tragically-short-lived, but epically-awesome TV series “Firefly“. I am of the opinion that any day with a little Firefly injected in it is a good day. Just the other night I had cause to exclaim, “Sure would be nice to have some grenades, dontcha think?”

Jayne Cobb's propsAnd lo, what does teh Internets yield up to me? One of Jayne’s grenades! (shown at the far left in this picture)

With all the fanfare for Jayne Cobb’s hat, I was very impressed to see someone step outside the knitting box and go straight for the ammo! Kudos to Brian at StormtrooperGuy.

Shel Silverstein Embroideries

shel silverstein broiled face Shel Silverstein’s stories and songs were a big part of my life when I was growing up. He seemed like a fun, cool uncle that never got tired of spinning yarns and cracking jokes, and he was always as close as my nearest bookshelf.

I got that warm, fuzzy childhood feeling all over again when I spied LilyVanilli72‘s spot-on embroideries depicting Mr. Silverstein’s wonderfully weird illustrations.

I love how this traditional blackwork method of embroidery lends itself perfectly to Shel’s art style. Lily’s meticulous stitches don’t hurt the sketch-like effect either!

So far she’s done “Razor-Tailed Wren,” “Who Ordered the Broiled Face?” and “Running Giraffe.” I’m hoping she’ll stitch some more, like the classic “Boa Constrictor” (a personal favorite of mine).

Ursa Major and Ursa Minor Pillows

Ursa Major and Ursa Minor pillowsLove, California designer Christin Morgan may be getting some serious buzz about her customizable state cushions, but it was these beautiful Ursa Major and Ursa Minor pillows that caught my geeky eye.

Whether you want to cuddle them while you dream under the stars, or set the pair on a shelf to gaze upon, these are the perfect teddy bears for astronomy nuts of all ages.

I think what I love about them the most is that they make me think of my mama, who has her telescope set up in the same room as her teddy bear collection. Plush bears and stars have always gone hand-in-hand in my house!

Iron Man Decal

Iron Man Sticker I love Iron Man, and I am looking at buying a new vehicle in a few months, so naturally, finding the perfect window decal has been at the forefront of my mind (oh, and MPG and safety ratings, those too…).

Richard at Customs655 sells this mean looking Iron Man Decal, as well as a “Sworn Zombie Hunter” decal, and he now etches glass! The shop is a little playground for anything you might want to slap on the back of your car, or see on a piece of glass!
