We’ve had a bit of a Star Wars theme here, lately, and that’s okay, because we’ve been running across some truly awesome Star Wars crafts! McBeth posted this beautifully done Star Wars Painted Quilt, made for her niece, on Craftster. An introduction, and Star Wars
Hello all! I’m Erin, one of the newbies here! I’ve only been seriously crafting for a year and a half, but I’ve been a geek all my life (I don’t remember a time when I hadn’t seen Star Wars). I’m a huge History fan (it was my major in college) and huge TV watcher and bibliophile. I mostly do embroidery, but I love seeing every kind of craft. I can’t wait to share all the geeky goodness I find with you!
Speaking of which…
It’s almost Christmas, but I’m still decorating. Do you know what my place needs? Snowflakes. Star Wars snowflakes!
Inspired by the snowflake her son was making, a Boba Fett/Storm Trooper snowflake was born. She also made a Vader-flake (and was kind enough to include patterns). After getting passed around the web, ThinkGeek found them and made more patterns, including a TIE fighter, Chewie, and a Dalek.
Tron Inspired Cross Stitch Pattern
It’s a big weekend for nerds with the movie Tron: Legacy opening in many countries around the world. Bombastitch sells lots of geeky cross stitch pieces and patterns in her Etsy shop including this most excellent Tron inspired pattern. The quote from the Master Control Program to Dillinger is sold as a PDF pattern and looks pretty easy to complete. Well, there’s a 68.71 percent chance that I’m right about that.
No, I never land on Sundays. Sundays are boring.
This may not be your typical ‘craft’ given the mass-production, but until Midnight (you hear that, Cinderella? TODAY until MIDNIGHT only! E.S.T.) you can order a most fantastic t-shirt from Tee Fury featuring the only thing out there scarier than Daleks and Cybermen combined: the Vashta Nerada. Ever jump at your own shadow? Chastise yourself for being silly over it? Well, don’t. If you haven’t seen this Doctor Who episode, you owe it to yourself. Just be prepared to never look at the darkness the same way. Ever. Again.
The design, appropriately titled “Count the Shadows” by Artist/Designer Jordan M Dalton is quoted in his Tee Fury interview saying:
I wanted to make a design for all the hardcore Doctor Who fans and make it something really specific, but also really cool looking for everyone else.
He was also kind enough to share the Doctor’s own words regarding these little terrors:
“Almost every species in the universe has an irrational fear of the dark. But they’re wrong, ’cause it’s not irrational. It’s Vashta Nerada. It’s what’s in the dark. It’s what’s always in the dark.”
Mr. Dalton, I do believe you overwhelmingly achieved the coveted balance between “geek” and “fraking awesome” with this design. Being a ‘hardcore’ whovian myself, I didn’t even need to read the banners to recognise the reference. That terrifying image is well emblazoned upon my memory, and your rendering of it is spot-on. Well done!

Castiel Poppet
I just recently started watching Supernatural, even though it has been recommended to me for years. I’m just about through Season 4 (Season 6 is currently airing) and have become a bit OBSESSED with the demon hunting Winchester brothers. Castiel, an angel, was introduced in the fourth season and quickly became a fan favorite.
FibreArtist4Life created this adorable Castiel poppet for Pioneer9 in Craftster‘s TV Addict Summer Hiatus Swap. The costume detail is beyond impeccable. It’s so well done and I want to hug it!
Sci-Fine Art, Humor and Time Machines with Rik Livingston
There aren’t a lot of nice things about living in the desert, at least not until Fall/Winter time, but one nice thing about living here is the amazing Crossroads Cafe and Tavern, where I was having breakfast when the painting to the left caught my eye. I took in the various pieces by the artist I would later discover was the one Rik Verlin Livingston, and I knew I had to track him down and introduce my Geek Crafters to his “Sci-Fine Art“.
We communicated in e-mails a few times before I met Rik at an artist reception held at the Joshua Tree Chamber of Commerce, which featured more of his work, to include some really great comic books. He was friendly, funny, and seemed to handle the attention (and the controversy surrounding one of his pieces) very well. I was really excited to be able to ask a few questions about his craft, his feelings on censorship, and of course, time travel.
