Functional Geekiness

Geeks come in all varieties.  That’s my favorite part of geekdom — how very inclusive it can be, since you can geek out over just about anything.

When I’m looking for geek crafts that are ‘gotta have it’ status, my first qualifier is, “Well, is this geekily functional?”  Oh, and yes, I did just use the word ‘geek’ as an adverb.  Why not?

Baby Tie-Fighter

crochet Star Wars Tie Fighter

This Baby Tie Fighter project combines two of my favorite things – geek-crafting and crochet. And I love how quick of a project this is – whip up two granny-type motifs and a radishy-looking ball, and boom, you’re done! And you’re off to fight those pesky rebels!

Tutorial Tuesday: Star Wars Knitting Charts

Via Pinterest

This baby blanket is practically a reason to procreate!
(Geekcrafts does not endorse the practice of procreation in order to receive knitted goods…)

Want to make it for someone you know/love/met today on a bus?! Well you’re in luck! because the fabulous Leah Fenton has made the knitting charts available free on Ravelry and her own website.

Perhaps you cross stitch and you can’t decide whether to knit them or use the charts as part of an awesome sampler? I can feel the conflict within you!

Tutorial Tuesday: Amigurumi Cyclops Baby Booties!

Here’s a fantastic amigurumi pattern from Nerdigurumi.

Should make some for the parents too, because when you’re a parent you wish you could have eyes on your feet… and in the back of your head…

Also I would completely wear these… like… outside :-)

Friday Roundup: The year of the dragon

This made-to-order toy was crocheted out of mohair yarn. His eyes, nostrils are needle felted. The egg is made by wet felting wool.
