Quit Dragon Your Feet and Get Started on This Blanket!

You may have seen the various mermaid tail blankets all over Pinterest lately – check out this dragon version! MJ of MJ’s Off the Hook Designs created this beauty incorporating two strands of bulky weight yarn with a Q hook, in newborn to adult sizes.

She also has other varieties, including a dolphin, large mouth bass, and a car seat cozy collection. And her shark blanket went viral during Shark Week!

Done with a large Q hook, I’m curious how quick these dragon blankets stitch up. Have you tried one of these cocoon type blankets? How long did it take you? Share your experience with us in the comments below!

A Wonder-ful Blanket Buddy

Lately my crochet queue has been filled with Yoda hats and Ewok scoodies, in honor of the recent Star Wars madness premiere. But I think I may have just found my next project – this adorable crochet Wonder Woman-inspired blanket buddy designed by Amy Anderson of Spicy Tuesday Crafts.

As a fellow curly girl, I am in love with her springy hair and that the blankie portion forms a sort of starry skirt. Just imagine the heroic adventures some child in your life could have with this fun lovey.

Amy’s Ravelry shop also features other geek-tastic blankies, like Batman, the Joker, and the Hulk, and you can find free patterns on her blog.

Birthday Party Theme: Blanket Fort

Blanket Fort Birthday Party

In the coolest-mom-ever category, I present to you Marita of Stuff with Thing. For her daughter’s 9th birthday, she threw a Blanket Fort Birthday Party. In addition to party activity stations, party-goers got to assist in the creation of a massive blanket fort, complete with disco ball! It sounds like they rented out a hall for the party, allowing plenty of room for fort expansion, plus an impromptu track for cardboard box race cars!

How’s this for low-cost birthday party planning – provide tables, chairs, cardboard boxes and blankets that you probably already have and let the kids go at it. Kudos to Marita for encouraging kids to pool their brain power in a creative way that also acted as an activity for the party.

Additional hat tip to the Minecraft references at the beverage table and birthday girl attire.
