Last week Kansas City was one of the select cities to host The Ultimate Marvel Marathon in AMC theaters. We took a “family day” to enjoy and revel in the geekiness. It was advertised as “one epic day” – it did not disappoint.
It’s pretty apparent that I really like Captain America. He’s my favorite Avenger. With the Avengers movie quickly approaching, I’ve been racking my brain trying to think of a Captain inspired outfit. One of the most iconic pieces of his uniform (aside from the shield), are the wings on the side of his helmet. I decided that I was going to make my own version of those wings.
With some left over felt I had from other crafts, I cut out a pattern of the wings that I created. In order to get the to be able to clip in my hair, I cut a small opening on one side to slide the snap clip through. Hand-stitching two pieces of felt together I left the top open a little so that I could add a little bit of stuffing. Not a ton, just enough to give the clip a little plump. Lastly, I hand-stitched the lines to define the wings a bit more.
Overall, I think they’re going to be an excellent addition to my outfit for the midnight release of The Avengers. It was a really easy and super cheap craft.
With the most recent Avengers movie trailer released, it was high time for me to finally find some awesome Avengers crafts.
In my search for some Avengers crafts, I ran across this Instructable by MonkeyWork for a Less Than $20.00 WWII Captain America Shield .
Now, I”m not exactly sure why, but I’ve always liked this shield more than his circle shield. When it was first announced that they were doing a Captain America movie, I was terrified. Until this promotional picture came out. Once that picture hit the interweb, I was sold.
MonkeyWork’s instructable has very clear and easy to follow steps in making this iconic shield. With this instructable, I now have a new item to add to my gear for the midnight showing of The Avengers.
My daughter would love to have this in her dress-up trunk! Jessee Maloney of Art School Dropout designed this awesome super hero shield project as a birthday gift for her two-year-old, starting with a Frisbee. I love it – it’s definitely Captain America-worthy!

Yesterday, I went to see Captain America. It inspired me to look for something awesome that was related to the first Avenger. I used to make duct tape wallets, and they will always have a special place in my heart, but this is a seriously cool wallet.
