Minecraft Creeper Pumpkins

‘Tis the season of ghosts and ghouls and creepy jack-o-lanterns – Halloween is just over a month away! What could be creepier than a Minecraft Creeper jack-o-lantern? Brenda Ponnay has you covered with an easy tutorial for making your own creepy Creeper pumpkins (or other vegetable).

I thought it was interesting that she was inspired by the green produce from her local farmers’ market, and that she used other vegetables in addition to pumpkins. Who would have thought of a Halloween green pepper?? Clever!

Sadly, my kids are past the days of decorating pumpkins, though I remember some fun Pokemon pumpkins from back in the day. What will you be carving your pumpkin into this year?

Everyone Needs Minions

My husband and I saw “Despicable Me 2” last weekend (it was his idea…he hasn’t watched an animated movie or a cartoon with me since “Toy Story” came out!), and as before, those little minions are just wildly funny. And according to the great vast internet, they remain pretty popular.
Brain from Kansas posted a tutorial on how he turned his son into a minion for Halloween, with the bulk of the costume coming from a garbage can. “As soon as my son saw Dispicable Me, my son immediately knew he wanted to be a minion. I had made his costumes for the past several years…, so I started working on this new challenge. He can be pretty shy, but once he was in this costume, his personality lit up.” Brian has some really great photos in his tute, which would be easy to recreate, or turn into a static display for a porch for a Halloween decoration.

Up next, an unknown family goes total “Despicable Me” cosplay! I really wish there was some way to ID them here. This is an awesome group costume!

BTW, if you go see “Despicable Me 2,” stay through the credits. There’s some funny minion stuff during the credits, but nothing afterwards.

No Lie, This Cake is a Nightmare

Perfect for Halloween this week, perhaps you’d like to whip up a Nightmare Before Christmas cake to enjoy. All it takes is some super-major cake ninja painting skills – surely you have those up your sleeve just, right?

I like how she includes all the different steps for creating and painting the fondant – I always wondered how the bakeries did that! I had no idea cake painting pens were a thing!

(P.S. Did you see what I did with the title of this post? “The Cake is a Lie” refers to what video game?)

Haunted Lego

I realize I’m pushing the boundaries here by including Legos in a craft blog, but these “haunted” Victorian mansions are too perfect for this time of year, I had to share them. Spidey’s Web – Halloween-style

Here’s a fun Halloween idea from Lowe’s – make a giant spider web for your porch. The Lowe’s website has an easy how-to using friction tape (which is adhesive tape made from cloth impregnated with a rubber-based adhesive).

Then to make it geeky, I would totally add Spider-man, Doc Oct, and Green Goblin action figures all over the webs. What would you do to make the web geekier?

Cinderella’s Steampumpkin Coach

In theory, the appeal of this pumpkin is that it’s a cool, no-carve idea for Halloween. But the real appeal is that it’s freaking rad! There are no specific instructions (beyond “use these bits of junk”), but you could take it in so many different directions…. You could go more steampunk or more traditionally fairytale elegant. You could add LEDs! (I’m always a fan of adding LEDs.) You could glitter that bad boy, or add rhinestones, or attach reins and horses. So many possibilities. Since I moved earlier this year, I don’t think I have the necessary bits and bobs to create such a fabulous pumpkin coach, but it would otherwise totally be my pumpkin of choice for this Halloween.
