Katniss Everdeen Cowl Wrap

cowl

My_RubySlippers of Aurora, IL posted her version of Katniss Everdeen’s cowl wrap over at Craftster.

She used a #6 super bulky yarn from Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick in #123 Oatmeal The S/M size took just under three skeins, and she only spent about $12-15 total on it. An added bonus for My_RubySlippers: she is also an archer and the design works well and stays put while staying out of the way, while out shooting some arrows.

She has her pattern available for sale in her Etsy shop, Orange September, for anyone that’s interested. This fun and trendy cowl is seamless and reversible. The armhole can be left or right, and cowl can be worn over a shirt, sweater, or jacket. Instructions given for two size ranges, S/M (formerly One-Size Fits Most) and L/XL. It will also stretch to fit a range of sizes when crocheted with recommended yarn and hook size, and matching the gauge.

Hunger Games Friday Treasury

hunger games etsy treasuryMay the odds be ever in your favour!

The second film in the Hunger Games trilogy, Catching Fire, isn’t coming out until November 20th, but I am already itching for it!! Catching Fire was my favourite book in the trilogy, and hopefully the film won’t disappoint! So in eager anticipation, here are some of my favourite Hunger Games crafts from Etsy. I especially love the paper cut out of Katniss and Rue (top row, third from the left). As always, click on the picture to visit the treasury! Enjoy!

May the bars be in your favor!

Check out this cell phone decorated with adorable chibi Katniss, Gale and Peeta! Everyone seems to be a bit obsessed with bars lately. Can you use your cell phone here…or here…no, maybe just outside of this door and to the left. We go through some weird antics just to be able to send a quick text, tweet or make that important phone call. At least while we wander around like a person possessed trying to find that elusive bar, we can look good.

Can you hear me now? Do I care? My cell phone looks AWESOME!

Resin-Coated Rowling

I stumbled across these awesome Resin bottle caps by Heidi of Digknity on the Rae Gun Ramblings blog, where she has kindly posted some free printables and a tutorial to help you make your own – which quite clearly calls for a round of drinks in her honour (hey, we need the bottle tops to craft with…).

Now, my personal favourite are the Potter ones, but that’s Not to say I don’t have a soft spot for a bit of Battle Royale USA too. Both Heidi and Marissa (the blogger behind Rae Gun Ramblings) are both massive book nerds, so it’s well worth digging through their sites to find some of the brilliance on offer.

Met up at the Hanging Tree

The release of The Hunger Games movie has really stirred up geek creativity! Stenciled shirts, cosplay and now… embroidery! Needlework isn’t just for grandmas any more!

There have been a couple of Hunger Game craft swaps running on Craftster and I have to say that I think that this is one of my favorite pieces created! Check out the textures and colors that Audania1 used in her Hanging Tree hoop!

And here’s a close up of the quote she chose…

This is awesome work Audania1!

Let the Games Begin…

Let the Games Begin... And with the opening of the new Hunger Games movie, based on the book, of the same name, they have. I may be one of the few people left who have not read the books yet but I recognize the symbols from it after all the publicity surrounding it.

I also recognize hand crafting talent and these pieces definitely fall in that category. A stenciled shirt and polymer pins bearing the Mockingjay symbol hat people have come to know from this series. The work of Miss K, daughter of PJCrafty, her mother who is very talented as well, the pins and shirt are just a few of the fandom items she has created in the past couple of years.

I do believe, the odds will always be in her favor with this kind of crafty talent.
