It’s fun to dress like superheroes, but spandex isn’t comfortable and isn’t made to be worn every day. Nerdy t-shirts are another fun way to show your love for a character to the world, but they won’t keep you warm in the winter. What’s a geek to do? Add flair with an accessory like a scarf! Etsy seller OOAKrafts has a variety of fleece scarves featuring superhero logos; they look awesome and they’ll keep you cozy.

Avengers Amigurumi

Last week, I decided to crochet my way through the Avengers.  By combining two different Cthulhu patterns and nixing the tentacles, I managed to get the look I wanted.  I made Black Widow, The Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, and Hawkeye.  Hawkeye was the most difficult to recreate since, in the film, he wears mostly black which makes him a bit more difficult to place than, say, Captain America.  Still, I added a little bow to give a heavy hint as to his identity.  The Hulk’s my personal favorite.  I just love his angry eyebrows.

Getting Girly With Geek Crafts

BenaeQuee, a Craftster member and Etsy store owner, recently posted a cocktail dress she made. It’s a cocktail dress designed not only to match Captain America’s suit, but also some killer art on Deviant Art. BenaeQueen was inspired by Kelsey Michele’s art.

“My main goal for this dress was to be able to wear it as a dress, and not let it become something that looked like a costume only. I wanted it to look like fashion. I used a royal blue Duchess Satin and a Royal Blue poly chiffon. The chiffon was a bit more purple in hue than the satin, but once laid over the satin, it looked more blue. It’s actually nice to see a color shift of lighter blue under the darker chiffon as the dress moves.”

But you can’t be dressed to the nines and not have your makeup match!

“This eye makeup by DeviantArtist KikiMJ features incredible superhero designs. The colors are perfect matches for the costumes worn by the likes of Thor and Wonder Woman and the designs themselves are amazing.” KikiMJ has a great series of eye makeup designs on her Deviant Art site. She actually didn’t have one that would g0 along  for Captain America, but I think her Wonder Woman design would match just as well.

A little fashion mayhem – Loki skirt

Loki skirt

In honor of the recent release of the Avengers on Blu-Ray/DVD, I link you now to a very fun Loki skirt by Nerd Alert Creations. What fun it would have been to wear this to the premiere!

I always wonder where they find fabulous material like this for these kind of creations – I definitely never see it at my local fabric stores!

Be sure to check out her other geeky creations – like a Tardis skirt, a Star Trek blueprint-y skirt, an Avengers skirt, and a Sherlock skirt.

Mom’s the Hero in this family!

Superhero playroom

How’d you like to hang out in a playroom like this every day? Wouldn’t you just feel so empowered to take on whatever challenges the day brings?

Superhero SAHM Lori transformed an extra bedroom into an extra-awesome superhero-themed playroom for her boys, taking lots of ideas from the Internet – which she kindly linked in her blog post.

How do I love this room? Let me count the ways…

  • I love the “Time to Save the World” canvas that hangs beneath the clock.
  • I love how she reused decor from a Superhero Birthday Party to decorate the room – particularly that comic book page pennant banner.
  • I love the chalkboard painted frame that says, “Be your own hero!”
  • I love the Sharpie-drawn city skyline lampshade.
  • I love the superhero capes hanging at the ready on the wall.

(Be sure to click through the link to see pictures of all of the above.)

What do you love about it?
