Perfect Cupcakes for Halloween

Usiris23 posted a tutorial (and the cupcakes were made by Instructables user SemadarG ) over on Imgur on how to make these scrumptious zombie teeth cupcakes for Halloween. Believe it or not, everything on top of the cupcake is actually just fondant and food coloring.

The fresh blood finish is made by mixing red coloring gel with drops of vodka of lemon extract. The dried blood is a mix red with a drop of royal blue and drops of vodka/lemon extract. Using a brush, apply the “fresh blood” color mix around the torn skin tissue, and apply the “dried blood” color mix around the gums, especially where the gums meet the skin tissue.

Can you imagine biting into one of these, if it were a red velvet cupcake?

Join the Zompocalypse by Making Your Own Zombie Plushie!

I just spent the weekend selling my handmade goodies at TopCon, a small pop-culture convention in Topeka, KS. One of the guests, Mike Mundy, was a zombie on The Walking Dead, so there was a lot of zombies hanging around this weekend. All those undead inspired me to share this great tutorial on making your own zombie plushie on the blog Heidi Boyd. This tutorial offers more inspiration than actual techniques, but if you’re familiar with basic hand sewing skills, you’ll have no problem making your little Zombie Plushie friend to hunt down brains with. You could even mix it up a bit and use different colored fleece, felt scraps, and embroidery floss. The tutorial offers up a great, basic starting point for your imagination to take over. Isn’t he just lovely? You can thank Fiona Goble for designing this handsome fellow, and Craft Foxes for posting the pattern (with permission of course). He’s actually just one of the zombies you can knit because there’s a whole book of them! Fancy having a Zombie Cop? Perhaps a movie classic like Frankenstein’s Monster or The Mummy? Pick up a copy of Knit Your Own Zombie by Fiona Goble and you can make them all!

My favourite part? The fact that the intestines “tuck neatly into their own specially made pouch.” Awesome.

Tutorial: Pin Cushion for a Zombie

Do you know a zombie who is into sewing? Do any of your undead friends keep losing all their needles? Well, you can make a Brain Shaped Pin Cushion for your crafty cadaver, armed only with some thick cord, scrap material, and basic sewing skills!

This tutorial over at Tiny Little Life actually makes use of a Hilbert Curve to make the general brain pattern, which is great because this make is not only nerdy in a WE LOVE ZOMBIES kind of way, but also in a smart WE LOVE MATHS kind of way too. I’m sure if David Hilbert were among the walking dead today he would be most pleased with this use of his design.
