Han Solo Cross Stitch Pattern
A little over two years ago, I created my first cross stitch pattern for a Craftster challenge. Naturally, it was a geeky cross stitch, immortalizing one of my favorite Star Wars quotes in floss and Aida cloth. I designed it by hand using pencil and graph paper, which took foreeeever.
Now, thanks to a free pattern-making program a fellow Craftster pointed me towards, I was able to chart my Han Solo sampler! It’s available both as a simple JPEG and as a PDF with color chart.
I have to say, the free KG-Chart software I used was pretty awesome. It was incredibly user-friendly, and included pre-programmed palettes for both DMC and Danish Flower Thread. You can export your final pattern as a jpeg, or print it out with a color chart and comments. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to make their own geeky cross stitch patterns.
Dear geekcrafts, I love your blog and I subscribe to it is google reader. But lately it has been a bit disappointing as images of what the articles are about do not appear in the feed. All that appears is the geekcrafts logo supersized. I thought you might not be aware.
that’s interesting, I also subscribe on google reader (windows, firefox) and don’t have that problem… it happened once (on the new years roundup I think) but never since then…
I’m sure someone will look into this straight away!
Sherezada!! I swear I’ve been googling star wars embroideries to think of interesting stuff to make for my house and I actually came across this design this weekend! I thought it was awesome, didn’t realise it was you!
It’s a SMAAAAALLLL world!
’tis indeed, Samantha! I’d love to see it if you stitch one up for your place. :)
Even-star, I’m sorry to hear about your reader problem. I, too, have google reader, and can see the pictures fine. Perhaps it’s a browser issue? I use IE. One way or another, I’ll bring it up to the GC mods. Thanks for bringing it up!
For any help it may give, I also have no problems with it on Google Reader and use both Google Chrome and Firefox.
I love KGChart! I’ve used it to make several patterns now and it really doesn’t take much to learn. Very useful!
KGchart sounds fun, and I desperately want to use it(charting your own patterns on paper is exhausting) but i have a mac. any suggestions on mac friendly software that does the same thing?
Thanks!
I recently switched from a Mac to a PC, and I have to say part of my problem in getting good X-stitch software was that I used a Mac.
I did a little googling, though, and have found something called MacStitch 2010: http://www.ursasoftware.com/macstitch/macStitch.html. They have a free demo, so it might be worth giving it a shot. Sorry I can’t be more help!
Has anyone used MacStitch before?
I love that you posted this. Thank you so much! I’ve asked my mom for it for my birthday – she loves to cross-stitch, where I’m more of a crochet person. Such a good quote!!
I know this is late in the game, considering it’s 2 years later. I had to share, that program is worth downloading even if you’re a part time cross stitcher– I uploaded a photo and it converts it to a cross stitch grid with colours and everything paneled out for you! Obviously, the simpler the picture, the simpler the cross stitch.
My sister is an artist and turning her art into some amazing cross stitch she can hang would probably make her flip her peanuts. It’s really neat!! I’ve never found a program where I could do that for free with more than 3 colours!
