Silk Screened Serenity Tote
“I am a leaf on the wind, watch how I soar.” Hoban ‘Wash’ Washburn
I’m not joking, my husband and I re-watched serenity a couple of days ago, and I had to look away when Wash said this line… I won’t tell you why… if you know you’ll know, but I wouldn’t want to spoil it for anyone.
PURE GENIUS!! – why did you cancel Firefly Fox?… WHY!!!!!?!??!?!??!??!!
*ahem* For those of you (like me) who have a Firefly shaped hole in your lives, you can plug it with this cute tote, or perhaps a T-shirt or hoodie from geekboypress on Etsy (seriously good value too, the tote and t-shirt are only $10USD each!) oh I really want one…. maybe I can negotiate one for valentines day…
Silkcreen printing is an awesome craft and I really want to get into it myself, but I’ve never been able to find anywhere in the UK that sells the supplies… I guess I’d better use the internet to it’s full potential… any good starter kit suggestions GeekCrafters?
I’ve used this tutorial and made some pretty cool (to me) silk screen stuff: http://community.livejournal.com/craftgrrl/3674467.html
My husband and I just bought all of Firefly for $19.99 at Best Buy on Sunday – we couldn’t believe it was marked down so low for the whole season! Now we need to get Serenity too.
Just do what millions of folks did before the advent of photo silkscreening and do it manually.
There’s a great book from the 40s…that I can tell you the name of when I figure out where i put it, that walks you through all the manual processes, and basically you can do small edition runs with crap laying around your house.
And as someone who actually ran a silkscreening shop, it’s definitely decent.
wow good advice, thanks for the tutorial Leitadala, will have a look. And you’re right, you need to get Serenity, have fun watching Firefly, it’s pure gold (or shoud I say, shiny!)
and Aimee, god knows I love anything you can do with ‘crap laying around the house’ – I didn’t realise the craft was so old, it looks so modern!
thanks again guys, you’re awesome!
x Samantha
Oh, that line makes me cry ever time!
yeah, silkscreening’s been around for centuries.
in you home you can definitely get an old wooden embroidery hoop (or picture frames, canvas stretcher bars, etc), old sheer curtains, block out what you don’t want to screen in elmer’s glue, let it dry and VOILA, you can do an edition of 10 or so before it breaks down! tempera works fine and dandy for this method.
Man, I’d never be able to buy that bag, it’d depress me every time I looked at it.
