Miss Atomic Jewelry

The other day, after something like twenty minutes talking with a coworker, I noticed that her cameo necklace was no normal cameo. “What a cool necklace!” I exclaimed, “Is that Cthulhu?” She laughed and said, “No, it’s just a normal octopus.” (A third coworker was confused by the exchange.) It was this one, which is adorable, right?

Anyway, after browsing around, I’ve decided that Miss Atomic’s shop is just the sort of thing that I need to bring to the attention of the Geek Crafts community. I kind of like cameos, or, at least, I feel like I should. But I’m not drawn to them enough to ever buy one. Or I wasn’t, until I saw this shop. Not only does she have weird skull cameos, owls, octopodes, and skulls-and-crossbones, but she also makes some of her cameos multi-colored, like this flamingo one. So cool!

I love her stuff! It’s so delicate, yet horrific at the same time. And while the cameos aren’t my style, the Keep Calm and Carry On is winging it’s way to my house as soon as payday rolls around!

I don’t want to be a spoilsport, but the skeleton lady cameo is everywhere on the internet – there are several sellers on etsy selling it, and quite a few on other sites as well. You can also buy it from jewellery suppliers on ebay and other places. This makes it really hard to determine who sold it first, and many of the sellers selling “hand-made” necklaces with this cameo also sell cameos that are indentical to each other. Really, all necklaces with these cameos should be listed as “hand-assembled” rather than handmade, and $40 is a bit to pay when you can buy enough cameos, necklace bases, and chain to make ten for the same price.

Louise, I was just going to say the same thing. Etsy is not very good a policing the re-sellers who abuse the site. A quick google of lady skeleton cameo turns up tons of these in all sorts of colors. Sorry to burst the bubble.
