I think we can all agree that science is a spectacular, wondrous thing. It’s also now a stylish thing, too, when you wear a pair of these DNA earrings. My personal favorites are the rainbow DNA earrings—which could do double-duty as science pride and gay pride, if you’re so inclined. Or they can just be awesome rainbow DNA earrings. That’s cool, too.
Craftster is such a great place to find nerdy crafts. Back in 2008 they had a Science IS Art swap that had amazing gallery–which included the greatest scarf of all time: the DNA Scarf. Superhooker made it for her partner (along with other great stuff) and it quickly became a popular topic. Last year I was the lucky recipient of one, and I love it! The pattern is here, so you can have your own!
The founders of DNA 11, Adrian Salamunovic and Nazim Ahmed have a super cool and geeky art style…. making wall canvas art with your real DNA! Upon purchase request they send you a DNA sample kit (don’t be alarmed, it’s only a swab of the cheek!) and about a month later you receive a completely original and unique piece of art! HOW COOL IS THIS?!
Geeky? check! Sciencey? check! I WANT ONE!!!
Kimberly Chapman of kimberlychapman.com made this great knitted DNA model she calls “Baby’s first DNA Model”. There’s no better way to make sure your child (or someone else’s) is introduced to geekdom early. You never know, your baby might like this DNA model so much, that they go on to become award winning scientists (or geeks)!
Zelda’s come along just in time to make sure your life size cardboard Iron Man doesn’t get lonely!
“Minidelerium, a Swedish papercraft hobbyist, made this kickass Zelda figure in 126 hours, which is three weeks of working 8-5, Monday through Friday. (She then gave Zelda away, which seems so sad.).” But never fear…if you need your own life size Zelda and want to take a crack at it, it looks like you can get Minidelerium’s template from Paper’s Juke.
You can see more of Minidelerium’s work over at Deviant Art. “I build papercrafts to keep myself occupied, relax and keep my fingers nimble. all my papercrafts up until Midna has been with 80g/m paper, so I’d say I’m pretty good at this by now. ^_^ however, I’ve now started to work with thicker paper and I’m loving it! it’s so sturdy and easy with the thicker paper. I wouldn’t recommend thin paper if you want good and durable results. it buckles too easy.”
