Plants Vs Zombies Paper Toys

Plants Vs Zombies has been released for the BlackBerry Z10! And I have a BlackBerry Z10! So guess who’s been spending all of her (precious little) free time yelling at zombies?

These Plants vs. Zombies paper toys are probably going to be my next obsession. Paper crafting is super fun! It’s inexpensive, relatively easy to make, and there are oodles of awesome patterns out there…like these cuties from Mayainpaper! There are downloadable patterns for quite a few plants and zombies, but I think Crazy Dave might actually be my favorite.

Plants vs. Zombies vs. Santa

I wish I had a tutorial to offer you, but I don’t. Here’s the (awesome) scoop anyway: This dude, Sean, has an apparently crafty and fabulous mother. He told her that he and his girlfriend were into Plants vs. Zombies shortly before Christmas. She made them these delightful stockings. He shared the story on Reddit, and it was subsequently tweeted by PopCap’s Director of Editorial and Social Media, Jeff Green. Who thought they were socks, before being corrected by much of the twitterverse. And now I share it with you. Enjoy.

Geek-Friendly Air Plants

Air plant in beakerWhen it comes to plants, I have a total black thumb. Okay, maybe it’s more greyish than pitch black, but still. Any plant that isn’t a succulent or a spider plant has a very short life expectancy in my household.

That’s why I’m excited about these adorable little air plants. They’re super easy to take care of, and can be kept in almost any type of container.

You can see what I mean by looking at the selection available at Tortoise Loves Donkey. Housed in simple glass containers ranging from itty bitty terrariums to geek-chic beakers, these air plants are perfect for livening up spaces of any size.

Perhaps they’ll help me change my thumb to more of a greyish-green color…yeah, no. Gross.

Fairy Garden in a Broken Pot

UCNudZX

Today’s “Geek Craft” might not be the usual conventional type of craft. However, it is pretty resourceful. A Fairy Garden is a miniature garden complete with structures and actual living plants. It is designed to give your green thumb a place to tend year-round and to lure fairies and with them, good luck, to your home. It’s a tiny space created and tended with love.

SweetCheesus posted this piece on Imgur last June. It’s a one year anniversary gift to his girlfriend, another Imgur user named slantedlight12. It’s sitting in an 18″ clay pot that he found at a local flower shop, and bought all the pieces and parts for under $50, and built it in about four hours. Half of that time was spent just breaking up the large pot.

It’s a nice bit of gardening and upcycling, as well as being pretty creative. SweetCheesus lives in North Carolina, so he’s got hot and humid weather most of the spring/summer. The plants came from a farmer’s market but he didn’t get the names of them.
