Winter is Coming: You’ll Need Mittens

Specifically the Game of  Throne s House Mitt Kits.  Be you, Stag, Lion, Wolf, Kracken, Flower, or Dragon. There is a mitt kit for you.  These kits sold by The Yarn Cafe  make it so you can knit up your own favorite house to keep the chill away. The kit includes the pattern for the house of your choice and enough yarn to make the gloves in the size of your choice.

And as they don’t have thumbs I think they would do quite well for keeping that spring and fall chill at bay before we whip out the big guns.  So grab your needles and wait for the shipment to arrive and get knitting. Possibly as you watch Season 3.  And perhaps visit the designer Anna Richardson/ One Hand Knits on Ravelry, where she has other patterns, and a few other geeky nods.

Patches…So Many Patches

There was a period of time where I had many a bag that was being held together by the sheer level of patches, and buttons holding it together. Now-a-days these decorate my badges, and convention totes. But these patches from Storied Threads make me think I’m gonna need a bigger tote.

They have so many options something is likely to tickle your fancy.  You could take a trip down to engineering.

GeekCrafts Submission: Harry Potter Sharpie Mug

DIY Sharpie-decorated mugs

We received this as a submission, and what a cute project! I had no idea you could decorate ceramic coffee mugs with regular Sharpies! I love how bright the colors turned out and the adorable little Harry Potter face (complete with mini Gryffindor scarf collar!).

What would you draw on your coffee mug? A Star Trek insignia? The Star Wars Rebel Alliance logo? A couple of Portals?

Nom nom – International Pi Day!

Nom nom - International Pi Day

Today is the 14th of March and that can only mean one thing. No, I don’t mean the birthday of Albert Einstein and Johann Strauss, I mean International Pi day! According to the Pi Day website:

Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th (3/14) around the world. Pi (a Greek letter) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159.

Crobots by Nelly Pailloux Review

Hello Geek Crafters! Today I’m going to be telling you about the adorable Crobots by Nelly Pailloux.

crobotscover

What is a Crobot you may be wondering. It’s a crocheted robot, naturally, which is an adorable idea. Of all of the cute robots, I chose Zombiebot. Because of course I did.

He only took about an evening to make and a total of maybe 20 cents. One ball of yarn would probably make you 3 zombiebots, so you could start a small army.

I thought the pen spring for the popped out eye effect was wonderful. I added barley to the bottom of his body so that he would sit up on his own.

The instructions were simple, well-written and easy to follow. To be honest, that is a huge relief. Too many times I’ve tried to follow a pattern only to find it overly-complicated. Not with this though. I never had to second guess myself.

So if you’re looking to add some cuddly robots to your life, which, why wouldn’t you, pick up Crobots by Nelly Pailloux. It’s a unique and fun book that will definitely keep you busy.
