Comic Book Craft: A Marvel-ous Guitar

Comic Book Guitar by Crafty Geeks

I have seen comic book art applied to a variety of mediums, from shoes to coasters to flasks. And today I bring you a musical medium – a comic book decoupaged guitar from Crafty Geeks. What a cool way to revamp a thrift store (or as the Crafty Geeks termed it, a “boot sale”) find!

What’s something you have upcycled or revamped?

Geek Knitting: Geek-a-Long Blanket

Geek-a-long Blanket squares by Megan-Anne Llama

Greetings geekcrafters! Today I wanted to share with you an ongoing geek project  – Latte and Llama’s Geek-a-Long blanket.

They are releasing one geek-themed square knitting pattern each week, including references to Sherlock, Battlestar Galactica, Harry Potter, the DC universe, and Avatar. They have also posted a FAQ for the project. The patterns are free, but they are encouraging donations to Child’s Play.

Like any good “a-long” project, it’s fun to interact with others who are working on the same project. It looks like this one has some good participation on Ravelry, with 500+ members in the group.

What fandoms or images would you include in a geeky afghan?

The Winter Soldier Fingerless Mitts

So today in the states at least a lovely movie came out. Captain America: The Winter Soldier.  Go see it, its fun and a great conspiracy meets Superhero type movie. I even wrote a review here, there is a break before the spoilers if you want to take a read.  So in that fashion I wanted a Winter Soldier Geek Craft for today. I mean he shares the name of the movie with Cap, and  I’ve already posted a Captain America Sweater.

So this time it’s the Winter Soldier.  This free pattern by Maratini on Ravelry are a perfect way to get a fun fiber made metal arm. Much better than being captured and experimented on by evil organizations I would say.  And that whole losing an arm bit. That doesn’t seem like any fun.

Ken Should Be Afraid… Very Afraid!

barbie

PeeWee Parker is a doll maker extraordinaire. Just one look at his Flickr site shows his talent for taking existing dolls and giving them full repaints. Here, PeeWee has taken your run of the mill Barbie doll and turned her into Michonne from “The Walking Dead.”

I wasn’t able to find any information on Peewee online to know more about him, so all we can do is ooooh and ahhhh over his creations.

Calvin and Hobbes Hoops

calvin hobbes

Calvin and Hobbes remains virtually untouched by commercial products, leaving fans and craftsters alike to create their own goodies. I always wondered if Bill Watterson would ever break on that and allow stuffies to be made of his creations, but so far, he hasn’t.

Silentblair from Craftster stitched up a trio of hoops of our favorite boy and his tiger to give away in the recent “Affirmation Swap.”

Cover your assets with geek-chic

Geeky Diaper Covers by Domestic Geek Girl

Projects like these Geeky Themed Diaper Covers by Domestic Geek Girl really make me wish I had some wee ones still in the house. (Of course, with a son who just turned 20, it doesn’t take much to make me wish to turn back time a little!) So for now I’ll have to settle for sharing these booty-licious beauties with you.

With the great geek fabrics from Marvel, Star Trek, Star Wars and more available at Jo-Ann’s and other retailers, you have so many options for creating some eye-catching geek couture for the precious cheeks in your life.

So I have a question for you – do you dress your children in geeky clothes, or are you letting them decide on their own to follow that path?
