Fungi Embroidery

Fungi Embroidery

Who knew fungi could be so pretty? Besides Carolyn, I mean. She’s a PhD student and these “furry friends” are actual fungi that’s she’s studying in the lab. She was so smitten with them that she decided to stitch them up as a decoration for her desk. I love it! You should definitely check out her blog, Allspice Abounds, for a more detailed explanation of this piece and some great close-up shots of the stitches.

And for all you 90s nerds out there, see if you can spot the Wayne’s World reference in her post.

Cursed Mr Drippy Amigurumi

Cursed Mr Drippy

After my post a few weeks ago featuring the Mr Drippy Amigurumi on Kitten’s Crafts, I decided I wanted to make myself one, and then make a cursed version of Mr Drippy (before he comes to life!) So, with permission, I adapted the pattern to make my very own cursed Mr Drippy amigurumi pattern!

Please DO NOT sell anything made from this pattern. I do not own the rights to the character Mr. Drippy and so it would be illegal to make profit from it. Also, part of this pattern is by Jastra Alethea on Kitten’s Crafts, and she has asked that nothing made from her pattern, which is freely available, is sold. Make them for yourself or as a gift, but please, do not sell them! Thank you!

Amazingly Detailed Star Wars Cross Stitch

Check. This. Out:

Star Wars Cross Stitch

This is an impressive piece of work. I’m always amazed by the time and care taken over large projects –  probably because I have only the patience to stitch emoticons and Space Invaders. This amazingly detailed work depicting Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker really shows that hard work pays off.

Check out the original post on Tumblr. The creater of this piece made the pattern themselves using www.picturecraftwork.com, uploading an image they found online. I’d love to know how many differrent colours of thread were needed!

DIY Dinosaur Plant Markers

DIY Dinosaur Plant Markers

Spring is finally approaching! It’s time to get out spades from the shed and focus on a gardening craft.

Besides strawberries and rhubarb, I have never managed to get anything past the state of seed, but for those who can’t keep their cauliflowers from their broccoli, I present you these Dinosaur Plant Markers. Katie posted a tutorial for this simple, yet elegant project at Punk Projects. So, head over there and get your hands dirty!

Spiderman Blanket

Functional Geekiness

Geeks come in all varieties.  That’s my favorite part of geekdom — how very inclusive it can be, since you can geek out over just about anything.

When I’m looking for geek crafts that are ‘gotta have it’ status, my first qualifier is, “Well, is this geekily functional?”  Oh, and yes, I did just use the word ‘geek’ as an adverb.  Why not?

Take a look at this adorable baby blanket made by Maygin, shop owner of Gromidez on Etsy. Continue reading
