A little fashion mayhem – Loki skirt

Loki skirt

In honor of the recent release of the Avengers on Blu-Ray/DVD, I link you now to a very fun Loki skirt by Nerd Alert Creations. What fun it would have been to wear this to the premiere!

I always wonder where they find fabulous material like this for these kind of creations – I definitely never see it at my local fabric stores!

Be sure to check out her other geeky creations – like a Tardis skirt, a Star Trek blueprint-y skirt, an Avengers skirt, and a Sherlock skirt.

Cinderella’s Steampumpkin Coach

cinderella-steampunk-pumpkin-coach

In theory, the appeal of this pumpkin is that it’s a cool, no-carve idea for Halloween. But the real appeal is that it’s freaking rad! There are no specific instructions (beyond “use these bits of junk”), but you could take it in so many different directions…. You could go more steampunk or more traditionally fairytale elegant. You could add LEDs! (I’m always a fan of adding LEDs.) You could glitter that bad boy, or add rhinestones, or attach reins and horses. So many possibilities. Since I moved earlier this year, I don’t think I have the necessary bits and bobs to create such a fabulous pumpkin coach, but it would otherwise totally be my pumpkin of choice for this Halloween.

Why not Zoidberg?

There’s a chill in the air, so why not Zoidberg? What’s not to like about this Doctor Zoidberg Balaclava from Om Nom Nom Studios. It keeps you warm, and it puts strange little dangly squid monsters in front of your mouth. Best yet, it is nearly half of a Halloween costume. All you need is some similar color mittens and a lab coat and you’re ready to stay warm at an outdoor party.

Game of Thrones Dragonscale Top

I thought about posting something about Hobbit Day – since September 22nd is the birthday of both Bilbo and Frodo Baggins – and the movie Facebook Page posted a great How to Throw a Hobbit Day Party guide. But September 22nd is so yesterday, so today I bring to you a Game of Thrones Targaryen House dragonscale bikini top. Because, thanks to the Internet, such a thing exists.

The crafter decided since the Targaryen house symbol is the dragon, and Danerys is the “mother of dragons”, after all, it made sense to create a “scaled” fabric. She also suggests that you “Wear this bikini top with a cute pair of daisy-dukes…people will stop and stare at you as though you had little baby dragons crawling all over your shoulders.” Indeed.

The Cutest Little Slayer Ever

Look, I’ll be honest with you. I’m not at all into amigurumi. More power to you if you are, but they are not my thing. But I stumbled across this little Amigurumi Buffy and was enchanted. I mean, seriously, look at how cute she is! I just love the little smirk and the little crocheted stake. Such an adorable little slayer.

ExtermiCHECKMATE

Yeesh…cheesy title for the post this week, right? Sorry about that. I’ve had a looong weekend at the Small Press Expo in suburban Washington DC. But on the other end of that cheesy title folks is a double whammy: a chess set (gasp!) with a Doctor Who theme (wheee!)  I found this via the deviantart page of Eladin Skywalker, a sculptor who made all 32 pieces from scratch out of polymer clay. The piece breakdown is as follows:

Evil side:
King: The Master
Queen: Lady Cassandra
Bishops: Cybermen
Knights: Judoon & Sontaran
Rooks: Weeping Angels
Pawns: Daleks

Good side:
King: The Doctor (Ten)
Queen: Professor River Song
Bishops: Ood
Knights: Captain Jack Harkness & The Face of Boe
Rooks: Tardises
Pawns: Baby Adipose
