A Call To Arms

I’m not much of a quilter – and after seeing this amazing little piece I think I know why. They are all in support of The empire! Clearly us needleworkers, dressmakers, papercrafters and up-cyclers need to form an impromptu branch of the Rebel Alliance and quell the evil quilters to re-establish the reputation for good that crafters have so long held dear. Just as soon as we finish chuckling.

I spotted this piece on Strawberry Jam Designs, a craft blog ran by an anonymous ’30 something gal in San Francisco’, that is well worth checking out for some amazing embroidered and quilted craft inspiration.

Stained Glass TARDIS

Look what I have found for our Whovians to drool over today.

This delightful stained glass TARDIS made by Alexandria (Xandrigirly from Craftster).

She says:

“This semester, I’m in Stained Glass II, which means that after two panels and a little simple box, we got to pick more complicated/design our own 3D stained glass pieces! I was originally planning on a lantern type thing, but I changed my mind and decided this would be a box to keep my ever growing candy stash! And since I’m a dork, it had to be a TARDIS! Anyways, here it is, please excuse the crooked lines and such of a beginner!”

I’m sure you will all agree with me that it is amazing and she should be very proud of it.

Pika-shoes!

How cute are these glittery little Pikachu ballet flats? So cute? Tremendously cute? Catherine Gretschel will make-to-order your size, and you’ll find a variety of geeky themes available in her Etsy shop. The shoes are coated with several layers of resin to keep you from leaving a trail of glitter as you shuffle through your day.

P.S. I didn’t realize this until about two years ago when I was doing research for a video game I was designing about ecology, but pikas are actual, cute little rodents that live in the mountains. I really thought the word “pika” was an adorable Pokemon made-up-word.  Go tell everyone ^.^

Captain America Clips

It’s pretty apparent that I really like Captain America. He’s my favorite Avenger. With the Avengers movie quickly approaching, I’ve been racking my brain trying to think of a Captain inspired outfit. One of the most iconic pieces of his uniform (aside from the shield), are the wings on the side of his helmet. I decided that I was going to make my own version of those wings.

With some left over felt I had from other crafts, I cut out a pattern of the wings that I created. In order to get the to be able to clip in my hair, I cut a small opening on one side to slide the snap clip through. Hand-stitching two pieces of felt together I left the top open a little so that I could add a little bit of stuffing. Not a ton, just enough to give the clip a little plump. Lastly, I hand-stitched the lines to define the wings a bit more.

Overall, I think they’re going to be an excellent addition to my outfit for the midnight release of The Avengers. It was a really easy and super cheap craft.

Subtle, Geek Style

Let’s face it. As much as we don’t care to admit it, there are times in our lives in which we just can’t let our Geek Flag fly without some sort of repercussions. Sometimes, we have to tone it down just a notch or two. This leaves the question of “How can we geek up our wardrobe without being totally obvious?”

This purse by StellarCheri is the perfect example!

I would feel more like Real Self if I could carry this bag with me to those many meetings at the school board that I attend. It’s stylish, not over the top, cool and classy all rolled up into one purse! Check out StellarCheri‘s other wonderful creations!
