Hey look! It’s Yeti and Friends!

I’m interrupting my previously scheduled post because I found the Etsy shop of Yeti and Friends. Who are Yeti and Friends, you ask? Why it is a fellow who makes yetis (and presumably his friends) into trophy heads. It seems a bit sad and macabre and not at all becoming of a vegetarian such as myself to endorse trophy heads, but these heads seem pretty happy about being decapitated and mounted. I mean, look at this pretty little girl depicted (and decapitated wakka wakka) here. Pure bliss on that furry little maw.  So to each their own, ya know?

Anywhoddle, I had the pleasure of having a booth next to these guys at the Alternative Press Expo in San Francisco this past October (it’s like an even nerdier Comic-Con).  Their booth was constantly packed, they brought tons of yetis and were completely sold out by the end. They were incredibly friendly and thoughtful booth neighbors and the products were very high-quality. Seriously Jim Henson-esque. Given the fact that I have the rare opportunity to share something I’ve actually be able to see first hand, I was excited to stumble across their shop on Etsy. Be sure to check out their diverse offerings of heads!

Hope Your Day is Shiny, Valentine!

Firefly Printable Valentines

What’s Valentine’s Day without a little bling? Or, at least, something…shiny?  As pinned by Kelsey Bennett, the TenthCrewMember over at FireflyFans posted some very shiny printable Firefly Valentines, so you can show some love to your favorite Browncoat.

But wait! There’s more! As in two more versions! I think the one from Jayne, thinking of his Valentine in his bunk, is my favorite.

Surely giving one of these Valentines will keep you from going to the Special Hell, right?

“I Love You!” “I Know”

It’s that time again.
Valentine’s Day.

For those geeks who aren’t into the mushy gushy cards for your loved ones. Check out The Wallaroo Prints on Etsy for some excellent geeky Valentine’s Day cards.

With customizable QR codes in a lot of their cards, you can send special secret messages to that special someone. They have something for each geek. Is your signifigant other a Star Wars fan? Check out the Leia & Han card. Or maybe, Robots are their thing. Personally, I really like the “I Less than Three You A Lot”  the most.

When It Just Needs to be a Little More Sonic

Or perhaps for those hard tor each places, these miniature sonic screwdrivers are perfect. They’re easy to keep track of as   you can wear them as earrings, charms on a necklace or bracelet, or even make a few to use as stitch markers. Julie, known as oboe_wan on LiveJournal, has made the Ninth and Tenth Doctors but does suggest that the Eleventh’s can be made using a bead with the appearance of a claw for the end. She has kindly provided a tutorial for those interested in making a few of their own.

A craft with some “heart”

I should get someone less-cheesy to write my post titles, shouldn’t I?

As you might have guessed, I’ve got a soft spot for science-themed accessories. I have some purple resistor earrings, some tiny circuit earrings, a caffeine molecule mug, and, after the post two days ago, I admit, I’ve already ordered a Darwin’s Tree of Life from Surly Amy.

So it’s unsurprising that I was drawn to this awesome heart-beat necklace, from BrightTigerDesigns on Etsy! It seemed seasonally-appropriate, too: what’s a more perfect Valentine’s present for your sweetie (or yourself) than a heart beat? Also, bonus: buying it would support a small crafter, rather than a giant card or chocolate company, in the bargain!
