Cosplay Fun at Planet Comicon 2015!

IBOT

I spent the past weekend at Planet Comicon in Kansas City, and even though I spent the weekend working my booth (The Costume Wrangler’s Closet), I did get to see some pretty awesome cosplay.  Above are some of the amazing folks from the Iron Brothers of Topeka (IBOTS).

RainbowDalek

This little Rainbow Dalek exterminates with cuteness according to her mom!

Sharknado

I had to run this boy down to get his picture for a friend who’s obsessed with Sharknado.  I particularly love the faux gore on all the sharks.  How creative is this kid?!

Groot

I snuck a snapshot of this cosplayed in a seriously cool Groot costume.

R2-Q5

Technically this isn’t cosplay, but the Kansas City R2 Builders Club have got some pretty amazing R2s, like this R2-Q5, an evil R2 whose allegiance belonged to the Empire!

She-Ra

This chainmaille She-Ra was a volunteer from Amanda Lynn Chainmaille Creations.

Chewie Knievel

Does your nerd cave have a blank wall and you know it needs SOMETHING, but you just don’t know what? Then this is the print for you: Chewie Knieval, King of the Rebel Daredevils! This is a 16″ x 21 1/2″ matte print. signed by the artist, Matt Dawson of Pineville, LA.

If just a print (for the low, low price of only $20 plus shipping) won’t do, then you can contact Matt at The Morlock Shop and ask about buying the original painting, as it is still available.

The Morlock Shop does have several Star Wars pieces, but if that kind if sci-fi isn’t your thing, then at least check out his G.I. George, an original 18″ x 24″ acrylic painting on canvas. It’s George Washington, the bad ass of the War of Independence crossing the Delaware and kicking ass!

Happy Earmuff Day!

Ah, yes…it’s that time again: Earmuff Day!  Actually, I’m ashamed to report that somehow this very salient holiday escaped my notice until this evening, when a friend alerted me to its existence.  My response was, of course, to make little miniature earmuffs out of all of my leftover pipe cleaners and mini yarn pom pom balls from previous projects and go around the house putting earmuffs on everything from the owl shaped cookie jar in the kitchen to the hurricane lamps in the living room.  (My boyfriend will be so impressed when he wakes up tomorrow morning and sees my handiwork! Is there such a thing as the Earmuff Fairy?  I think I sense a new tradition…)

In the spirit of Earmuff Day, here are some crafty earmuff ideas from around the web:

These Princess Leia earmuffs made me smile (links to a YouTube video with DIY instructions, thanks to DeviantArt user Taniathepirate):

I want to learn how to crochet just so I can make these Spock ears (spotted on Croshame)!

I was unable to find any instructions for these Pokeball earmuffs found on Etsy.com [via monster.loveitsomuch.com], or these R2D2 earmuffs (spotted on DeviantArt from user Bee-Delicious), but they both look like they could be recreated pretty easily with some faux craft store fur and felt:

Plus, how to create faun earmuffs (thanks to Meri Greenleaf at Elfling Blog):

So, I’m dying to know: What are you up to this Earmuff Day?  Any big plans?? Hope you have a good one!

Avengers Book Marks DIY

avengers-bookmarks5

If you’re stuck indoors with little ones this winter, I found this fun DIY that’s perfect.  Amanda Formaro on the blog Crafts by Amanda, has got this simple tutorial on making bookmarks out of popsicle sticks, craft paint, white out, and permanent markers.  They’re easier than they look, and you probably already have the supplies.  What’s even better is that for the super creative, it’d be really easy to take this project to the next level and create any of your favorite superheroes!

Better Call Saul!

w2U1A6p

This mind blowing cake version of Saul from A&E’s “Better Call Saul” was recently featured on Imgur.

Owner of Sideserf Cake Studio, Natalie Sideserf of Austin, TX, gained global attention with her hyper-realistic sculpted cakes. Several of them have earned millions of views and acclaim from national and global news outlets. A sculpted cake she made resembling Willie Nelson reached the number one submission on the front page of Reddit.

You might be able to make the argument these cakes have Rice Krispie Treats inside them, with fondant on the outside, but if you check out her site and look for the Willie Nelson cake, then you’ll see his head is missing a piece and there’s cake inside that singer’s noggin.

Captain America Tie Dye DIY

CapTieDyeShirt

I ran across this awesome tutorial on iLoveToCreate, posted there by Alexa.  The tutorial is great, and this technique is surprisingly easy.  I recommend watching the short, 3 minute video and reading the instructions.  It’s a little labor intensive, and messy, but so worth it, don’t you think?
