Star Wars Cookies Using Holiday Cutters

Star Wars cookies using holiday cookie cutters

So it’s the time of year when you may be busting out your holiday baking supplies, ready to get your peanut butter blossom and jam thumbprint cookie on. That’s cool, if you want to be like everybody else. But we here at GeekCrafts are prone to take it up a notch. A rather geeky notch. In which case, this project will probably appeal to you.

Callye Alvarado at Sweet Sugar Belle has come up with a clever way to repurpose several ordinary holiday cookie cutters into Star Wars greatness. In the picture above, check out how a candy corn becomes an Imperial Cruiser, a wrapped candy becomes a Tie Fighter, an ornament becomes the Millennium Falcon, and a bell becomes Darth Vader. On her blog, also see examples of a morphing tombstone, Santa Claus, spider, and skull.

Will you be doing any holiday baking this month, either geeky or generally festive?

Another Doctor Who Scarf

DW_modeled_tied_frivolite

Guys, guys, I really thought it would be a few weeks before I posted anything doctor who related. I really did.  Silly me.  Pretty much five minutes after that thought I was informed of the existence of a double knit doctor who scarf making the rounds on Ravelry.  Frivolite Handcrafts has created a scarf titled The Name of the Doctor.

Tardis? Check. Gallifreyan script. Check.  Possibly needing a time machine to get this done anytime soon? Check and check.

Have a Merry Geeky Christmas

Well, I can hardly believe it’s December already (so many presents to finish!), but ’tis the season for Christmas trees and ornaments. Luckily for you all, I have found the perfect way to geek up your home for the holidays! These would make great gifts for fellow nerds, or keep them for yourself!

First up, for all of the Captain America fans, make sure your tree is appropriately patriotic with this lovely felt tree skirt! Crafted by the great folks over at With Our Powers Combined, they took a Dollar Store tree skirt and turned it into the Captain America shield. It’s amazing what you can do with creativity and a few yards of felt.

Next, for all you Potterheads out there, adorn your tree with the Golden Snitch! Made by Gabrielle from Tiny Apartment Crafts, this Snitch is made from a gold ornament, some acrylic paint, and some glittery wings crafted from wire and tissue paper. Beautiful and shiny, it’s a perfect addition to any tree!

Every time a Snitch gets its wings, Gryffindor wins!

Well, no matter what day you celebrate, here’s wishing everyone a great holiday season!

Warp Speed Galaxy Shirt

Warp Speed Galaxy Shirt by Punk Projects

While I have a fondness for a variety of fandoms, I would probably have to say I am most fond of Star Trek. There’s just so much to love! That’s why I was drawn to this Warp Speed Galaxy Shirt project by Katie Smith at Punk Projects.

Her tutorial looks so easy – a couple of spritzes of bleach on a black t-shirt, some dabs of paint, a speedy little Enterprise and boom, you’re off to seek out new life and new civilizations!

I love how subtle it is – you’d really have to look for that little Enterprise, but for the trained eye, it would be like an Easter Egg on a shirt. :)

A fun related note – Katie is already known for her Star Trek crafts, as seen in her Star Trek Christmas ornaments project I have previously featured. She also contributed the Starfleet Uniform Apron project (p 80) to my Star Trek Crafts book!
