River Song’s Journal/Shrine

Geekgirl1000100, also known as Carlee Dise, recently posted a shrine she made for Doctor Who and River Swan.

“I took a plain wooden box that was shaped like a book and made it look like River Song’s journal…I painted the exploding Tardis background but the Tardis itself is a 3-D cutout.”

For more in Carlee’s craftiness, check out her Pinterest page. She has an entire category dedicated to the altered shrine swap.

Let’s Go Flying

Last week I shared NeedleNoodle’s Ray Gun pattern in both knit and crochet. I should have know bettern than to just stop there. She has tons of great patterns for lots of geeky knitting and crochet.  Two patterns caught my eye as too more to share of their work.

First up a crochet hot air balloon. Its oh so very cute. And the size states it can hold a lego minifig

But it gets better.  There is also an airship.

Look at that air ship, my first thought was combining these two patterns, and making a Steampunk themed baby mobile.  I just need to find a baby. Plan B – Christmas ornaments, imagine these done in sparkle yarn, add a chain to hang them from. And you have unbreakable pretty for the tree.

Both patterns like before are available for purchase on Etsy and Ravelry.

This reader submission blew me away.  Look how amazing these shelves are!

LegoShelves

This tutorial really breaks it down into simple to follow instructions. It starts with an IKEA bookshelf and ends with the coolest hutch I have ever seen! If any of you make this, be sure to show us pictures!

DIY High-Voltage Thor’s Hammer – 80,000 Volt Mjölnir!

Caleb from Hackaday wanted to make his own Thor’s Hammer. But not just any Thor’s Hammer, oh no, Caleb’s version of Mjölnir contains a mini Tesla Coil that packs an 80,000 volt, lightning strike punch.

DIY High Voltage Thor's Hammer

Click the image above to see Caleb’s video that demonstrates what I’m talking about. The hammer is pretty big, but in a cool, over-sized kind of a way, and would make a great talking point at any convention. There’s also a good video where Caleb shows how he made both the hammer itself and his pretty effective version of Thor’s armour, which appears to have only taken a few hours. Check it out: DIY High Voltage Thor’s Hammer: How it was made.

Sugar Skull Cameos

Docnessie over at Craftster recently posted these Sugar Skull Cameos.

“They seemed to be missing a little something, so I painted them to somewhat resemble sugar skulls, and even added a hint of glitter to the hair of one Smiley I have to practice painting on something so tiny, but I am happy with the first try. Any Advice on what kind of paint to use is appreciated, all I had lying around were citadel paints I use for miniatures!”

They are very pretty and I’d love to have one myself. I’m thinking I may need to try making something like this myself!
