Dammit, Jim!

Let’s face it: One of the best things about TOS was every time Bones said, “Dammit, Jim, I’m a doctor, not a _____.” It happened a lot. The more it happened, the funnier it got. It’d make for one helluva drinking game (I’m sure it already has, in fact). So, naturally, this Trek magnet/button set tickled me. There are bunch of geeky button and/or magnet sets in the hownice Etsy shop, so peruse at will.

Library Book Bag.

My little Kindergartner was super excited to get her library card the other day.

She was concerned she would loose her new library card, and she wanted to make sure she had somewhere safe to keep her borrowed books. (A real concern with 3 little siblings, and a house full of books)  So I made her a special library book bag.

I made it out of a pair of old jeans. Actually 3/4 of a pair of old jeans, I used 1/2 of a leg for a different project. It’s a simple messenger bag with a few special touches.  The front has a great decoration I embroidered on to a piece of felt, using a pattern from Urban Threads. I just zigzagged around the edge to keep it in place.

On the inside, there is a pocket for the library card. I cut a pocket off of the butt of the pants, and sewed it into place. We were nervouse the card might fall out and get lost, so we put as little hole punch in the card, and tied it on with a ribbon.

It has lots of room for all her special library books, and she loves it very much. She has already taken it to school for show and tell.

Metroid Cross-Stitch iPhone Case

Hi, everyone! Today I’m in the mood to show off, a little. My husband’s a major Metroid fan, having played pretty much every Metroid game out there and even found a Metroid-themed drink, in the past. So when he joined the dark side got an iPhone, and I offered to cross-stitch him a case, I should probably have expected that he’d want an 8-bit Samus.

I basically copied the Samus Aran cross stitch from Azay’s Video Game CraftHaven. I admit: it’s a lot harder copying a finished piece than working from a pattern, for some reason. Which is to say, yes, anyone looking super closely will notice that I got a pixel flipped, but, uh, just don’t tell my husband, eh? ;)

Here are a couple of other Metroid-themed crafts from the past:
