Husband Sacrifices ‘Star Wars’ Sheets So His Wife Could Make These Awesome Clothes

Jennifer Vetere’s husband Robert sacrificed his old Star Wars bedsheets so she could make them something awesome to wear to The Force Awakens premiere. This is only the second dress Jennifer has ever made and it’s the first time she’s ever put a zipper into anything.

Plus, he got a really sweet Boba Fett bowling shirt out of the deal. This back panel is actually from one of the pillow cases.

As it turns out, Robert gave the sheets to Jennifer a full year before she did anything with them. She was too scared to touch them for awhile!

Make Your Own Terrarium

Terrarium

I’ve been seeing really fun geek-themed terrariums on Pinterest lately, but not a lot of detailed how-to’s. Though it’s pretty easy to make a terrarium, it turns out you don’t just want to throw some sand and rocks in a jar and decorate with air plants, moss, and a few minis.  That is, if you want your plants to actually thrive any way.  So I tracked down a few generic terrarium making tutorials, including the great image above from the blog Something Turquoise. Another blog, Food 52, has great step-by-step instructions on making a terrarium as well. Once you’ve got those basics down, you can decorate your terrarium with any fandom you like. And there are tons of ideas out there.  Here are a FEW of my personal favorites!

The official starwars.com has got this awesome Degobah Terrarium, with instructions.

MossLoveDoctorWhoTerrarium

This terrarium is for sale on Moss Love.

This one features one of my favorite superheroes! And there are even instructions on the blog Sweet Happy Life if you’re interested in making your own.

Moss+Love+-+Zombie

This Zombie Terrarium is also for sale on Moss Love. I ADORE this idea.

What fandom themed terrarium would you create?

DIY Louise Belcher Crochet Hat

Louise Belcher hat by Adriana Bon

“She’s better on the page than in person.”
“Cute? He’s the reason faces were invented, you idiot!”
“Oh my God, why do you talk so slow?”
“I don’t appreciate your lack of sarcasm.”

Who can’t use a little more Louise Belcher in their life? This sassy youngest daughter from the cartoon “Bob’s Burgers” tells it like it is (and like many of us would like to). Channel your inner Louise with this spot-on crochet hat by Adriana Bon. She’s posted the pattern on Ravelry (a steal for less than $2!) so you can make your own. With 10″ ears and the massive popularity of the show, this hat is sure to be a conversation starter!

See more of Adriana’s yarny adventures on Instagram.

Make Your Own BB-8 Perler Bead Cord Keeper

aftb-bb8-cord-keeper-title

It can be so easy to lose those tiny earbuds, so why not make a cute BB-8 cord keeper to keep track of them in style? I found this quick tutorial by Allison Waken on her blog All For The Boys.  It’s a simple project, and for the more adventurous, it would be easy to to adapt for other designs, just in case this isn’t the droid you were looking for.

Star Trek Continues is a critically-acclaimed, award-winning, fan-produced webseries that continues with the Enterprise’s on-going five year mission, and does so with new actors in the iconic original roles.

Recently, oil artist Emie Morrisette painted an oil portrait of Captain James T. Kirk and ship’s counselor, Dr. McKennah, as portrayed by Vic Mignogna and Michele Specht. Currently, the portrait is hanging in their studio.

It Began With a Pair of Shoes…

doctor shoes

Gabrielledeschain posted these shoes she painted for her oldest daughter.

Her daughter found a pair online that she liked and sent over a picture. But alas, these $80 shoes from Colorado weren’t in Mom’s budget, since Mom’s unemployed because of her health.

But like any good mom, Gabrielledeschain wasn’t going to let that stop her. Gabrielledeschain’s mom even got involved by purchasing a pair of plain white shoes. And because Gabrielledeschain already had the paints, she got to working. Her series of photos on Imgur serve as a creative tutorial on how you could paint your own pair of Doctor Who shoes, customized for your favorite Doctor.
