Name the Geek Contest

Name the Geek!Greetings Geeks! By now you’ve noticed our awesome new look and today we present our official Geek Crafts logo! (If you’re reading this in a blog reader, click through, just this once.)

Also today we launch our contest: Name the Geek! This geek needs a name and we’re leaving it up to you, our lovely readers, to decide.

Here’s how it will work:

  • Starting today and up until midnight ET on Sunday, May 29th, leave a comment with your name suggestion. (If more than one person suggests the same name, the first person to suggest it will be entered, so be sure to read through the comments first and come up with something different.)
  • On Monday, May 30th, we’ll post a list of all the names for you to vote on. You can vote until Sunday, June 5th.
  • On Monday, June 6th, we’ll announce the winning name. And to thank the reader who suggested the winning name, we have an epic prize package!

[Edit: Midnight Eastern time – I’ve got to go to bed at some point, kids :) ]

Star Trek on Pinterest

Boldly Go - Star Trek pillowHave you discovered the web treasury/bookmarking site called Pinterest? It’s a “place to catalog the things you love.” And since I do love me some Star Trek, I was so very pleased to find this Star Trek “Pinboard” by Edie Rowner. At this time, she has 42 “pins” in this category, all related to Star Trek DIY-awesomeness.

She pinned the fabulous felt pillow pictured at left, some intricate Star Trek insignia socks, some geek soap, a Kirk amigurumi, and a pair of Star Trek earrings.

Have you been using Pinterest? Got any geeky-crafty pins to share? Link us up in the comments!

A Framed Goblin

A Framed GoblinFoxyBlue of Craftster created this great Labyrinth-inspired framed goblin.  The matte around the goblin has the popular Labyrinth quote “I wish the goblins would come and take you away right now!”

Personally, I wouldn’t mind the Goblin King coming to take me away!

Ballad of Serenity Cross Stitch

Ballad of Serenity Cross StitchI really miss Firefly. Every time I hear the first guitar twangs of the opening credits, I still get chills up my spine.

I got the same little thrill when I saw Craftster member audio’s  Ballad of Serenity cross stitch.

A simple piece, yes, but it possesses an honest, homey loveliness. Kind of like the ballad itself.

I could see something like this maybe hanging in Captain Mal’s cabin aboard Serenity. Out of sight of the crew, though, lest they think him overly sentimental.
