Female cosplay worthy of the name of Thor

Female Thor cosplay by Anna Lee Mueller

With Marvel’s recent announcement that the Thor comics will soon have a female lead, I thought it might be fun to see if there was any female Thor cosplay out there. The internets did not disappoint.

Not only did Anna Lee of Glitzy Geek Girl put together a great Thor cosplay costume, she also provided a tutorial for creating the winged Thor helmet and beveled armor plating out of craft foam! I would not have thought of using gesso for a primer before spray painting – great tip!

What do you think of Marvel’s choice to make Thor female? What do you think of females cosplaying as male characters? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

High Fashion, Yet Practical and Durable

Over at Reddit and Imgur, kogenesis86 posted a gift he made for a female friend: a big old barrel of Chanel nightstand, complete with storage space, two USB ports and a wall outlet for a lamp!

The logo is a vinyl sticker with some paint. The latches at the top were added to the barrel by kogenesis86. One of the Imgur commentors had an excellent point to make: don’t go out and get a used barrel, because you don’t know if there was anything flammable in it. Go buy a new one. And someone else did the math for us: 55 gallons of Chanel No. 5 Parfum would cost $2,255,474.54.

Operation Crossbones Kickstarter

Check out this Kickstarter campaign. Xander is raising capital to start a business making screen-printed nerdy pirate flags, and he has some great designs!

operationcrossbonenot quite, entirely unlike tea

From the site:

“Pirates are cool! Aside from being covetous, rum-swigging, no-rules-having bad-asses, you know what makes them so freakin’ awesome? Their flags!

Take the Jolly Roger—one of the most iconic symbols in recent history. It was flown by men and women of fortune to show the world that they would not be ruled—that they were free.

I want to make the same statement. I’m opening a pirate flag screen-printing operation to create personal Jolly Rogers to sell at comic conventions, Renaissance fairs, art shows, and other events.”

He only has 3 days to go and has just about reached his goal! Definitely worth checking out!

Peter Griffin Cosplayer Kills It

At the 2014 Allentown Comic Con there was a cosplay contest judged by celebrity cosplayers Riki Lecotey a.k.a. “Riddle” and Nicole Marie Jean. To keep the crowd entertained while they deliberated, they asked Robert Franzese, the perfect Peter Griffin cosplayer, to take the mic and he completely KILLED it!

Check out “Peter’s” stand-up comedy routine video.

By all means, this is not an elaborate cosplay, but it works because it’s so simple: glasses, white shirt, green pants, and a belt buckle. However, this guy has nailed it with the voice, the laugh and the banter he does. I mean, he actually makes Peter into a cute character! I’d love to see him team up with a Lois Griffin impersonator!
