The Geek’s Bedroom

221863_06May15_12

Arachnea, a self-proclaimed geek from Ontario, posted this project on Craftster and called it, “The Geek’s Bedroom.”

She said she’s a geek and so is her husband, so she decided to create a roombox miniature of a geek’s bedroom. More specifically: a comic book geek. In the series of photos she posted, Arachnea included an amazing amount of details in her little room: furniture, a rug, a ton of books, comics, candy wrappers, a little t-shirt, an even posters and stuff on a bulletin board! It’s the kind of place I’d like to hang out.

Add Geek Flair to Your Shorts

Geek panel jean shorts by Sasha Rumage

With all the fantastic geek fabric hitting the stores and interwebs these days, you may be wondering what to make with it.  Here’s an idea from Sasha of Tattooed Martha – add some flair to your favorite pair of shorts.

Her tutorial walks you through creating a custom panel for shorts you already love, with the bonus of Velcro tabs so you can switch the panels out! Genius! And extra bonus? It’s all NO SEW!

I would think this might also work to create interchangeable geek fabric pockets to attach to the front or side of skirts.

What geek fabric would you like to use to spice up your wardrobe?

TARDIS Upholstered Bench

tardis bench

Class, this morning in Geek Upholstery 101, we are going to learn about the many forms the TARDIS can take.

Allofthefrosties posted this album to Imgur recently. It’s a look at the before, during and after of a bench refinished to look like our beloved TARDIS. The bench was left in Allofthefrosties home when he/she moved in, and the previous owner never came back for it. With a little wood glue, paint, dowels (to create the window panes), rubber cement, foam and fabric, Allofthefrosties has shown us how the most mundane piece of furniture can be TARDIS-ized.

The Geek Crafting Gods Have Smiled On Us

Remember my post about the lamp featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi fighting a Great White Shark? Someone has made another great action figure lamp!

avengers lamp

downtwobane posted an album of the process on Imgur. His sister bought a cheap Avengers playset ($10) at the Disney Store for his birthday. He had seen other examples of action figure lamps online and decided to make one with these figures. The lamp was $2 from a thrift store, and he Super Glued the figures to the lamp base.

And as a thank you to his sister, keep scrolling through that album to see the Frozen lamp he made for her.

Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding Cross Stitches

cross stitch

Rebecca from Aurora, IL posted this image of two cross stitch hoops she created, over at Craftster.

She said she saw a Kickstarter campaign a few weeks ago to make a Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding museum in a Brooklyn apartment. She donated $5 to the cause and (jokingly) tweeted, asking if they were taking submissions. The group contacted her back and said they definitely wanted some cross stitches. Rebecca’s husband designed them and she did the stitching.

And in case you’re a Nancy or Tonya fan, you can find the Kickstarter campaign here. They had 150 backers pledging $2,036 to help bring this project to life, to convert a hallway in their apartment into the Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding 1994 museum..

Fan Made “Black Widow” Title Sequence

Christopher Haley has created a fantastic title sequence for a Black Widow movie, featuring the song, “Sour Days” by Portishead. It was actually made for an After Effects class.

Black Widow’s villain would be. . . Black Widow. Yelena Belova, to be specific. Belova believes herself to be the superior Black Widow, and in some ways she is right. Swift and ruthless, Belova is the most talented assassin to graduate from the Red Room–and now she is Hydra’s most deadly weapon. At Belova’s side is a super-soldier of her own, Alexi Shostakov–the Red Guardian, who also happens to be Natasha’s former lover. When the new heads of Hydra make a play for the power of the infinity stones it is up to S.H.I.E.L.D.’s top agent to stop them.

Despite Marvel not showing an interest in prolonging the movie lives of their female heroes, I think the powers that be need to take a hard look at this gem. It’s got a real 1960’s/Cold War/James Bond vibe to it. Black Widow isn’t one of “my” characters, but I’d see this movie in a heartbeat!
