Jupiter Power, Cosplay!

Sailor Jupiter cosplay by Geeky Seamstress
Cosplay photography by Aperture Ashley

I’ve mentioned before how cool the Female Geek Bloggers Google+ Community is. It’s through that community that I found the Geeky Seamstress. She is a cosplayer/seamstress extraordinaire – her blog is packed full of tutorials and costume notes on her various projects.

One striking project she completed was this fantastic Sailor Jupiter cosplay, which she debuted at Anime Fest 2014. Her blog post details her design process, including extensive customization. I bow to her sewing greatness – I’m lucky if I can sew a straight line for an infinity scarf!

Fully Knitted Captain America Cosplay

Ag0o0IX

I crochet, so I can appreciate the time and effort that went into this costume: Cosplayer Fangirl Physics knitted this Captain America costume, for SacCon in March. It’s made entirely of assembled knitted pieces. She doesn’t carry the Captain’s shield, but she has a pair of knitting needles in her bag to fight freedom’s foes.

For more of her costumes, check out her Facebook page. Make it a point to scroll through her posts. She has an awesome end of last season cosplay of Beth from “The Walking Dead!”

A Bracelet DIY Using Old Comics

ComicBookUpCycleBracelet

I have a friend who creates awesome jewelry by recycling old comics, which got me thinking . . . what else can a person make with old comics? That’s how I found this tutorial on Oh! Rubbish! Blog. It’s a super easy DIY, with great pictures.  Plus, I’d bet magazines, newspapers, and old photos would probably work well with this idea too.  Just think of the possibilities!

Geek Fashion Week is coming!

Geek Fashion Week calendar

While my geek fashion sense tends to run towards a few geeky tees, there are those who take it to a whole different level. Get ready, because Dina “Lady Steam” Kampmeyer and her team of geek fashionistas are hosting an in-real-life and online fashion extravaganza March 23-29.

From the announcement:

Geek Fashion Week was formed with one simple purpose: to help boost confidence in the geek community by harnessing the power of fashion.

They have a whole slew of events, both in-person in the Los Angeles area and online, including a Style Faire, fashion show, geeky pajama brunch, and online contests. With sponsors like Her UniverseThinkGeek, Espionage Cosmetics and Castle Corsetry, the events are sure to be stellar.

The Creative Styling and Design contests just scream for your geekcrafting superpowers! The Styling contest makes me think handmade headbands, bracelets, and other fun accessories, not to mention makeup! The design contest deadline is this week, so be sure to check out all the details at GeekFashionWeek.net.

Doctor Who TARDIS Chair

tardis chair

Every room needs a good chair to tie it together, and it should also have a conversation piece. Why can’t those be combined into one solid piece of awesome furniture? In this case, they have been!

WittsWhimsy on Etsy, of Cary, IL, created this one of a kind TARDIS chair. The wood trim on this Begere Regency chair was terribly worn, so it was sanded and painted black. The front fabric is hand painted Cobalt blue shantung silk. The old cushion was replaced, and handmade the piping throughout was created for this chair. The cushion was made of four inch thick memory foam.

Fortunately for WittsWhimsy, the chair did sell already. Unfortunately for us, the chair did sell already and there’s not another one available.
