The Golden Compass in Cuff Form

Love this cuff—it reminds me of The Golden Compass (Northern Lights in England, apparently), which, as far as I’m concerned, is one of the greatest books ever. Love the whole damn His Dark Materials series, in fact. I didn’t read them till college, but I was besotted. I read the next two volumes post-graduation, while commuting, and kept missing my bloody stop on the subway. And occasionally crying on the train while reading The Amber Spyglass. So brilliant. Have them on my shelf now; must reread.

Oh, right. So, yeah. I like this cuff because of that whole convoluted backstory.

Galactically Awesome Star Wars Shoes

hand-painted Star Wars shoes

Holy Mother of Meteors, these shoes are full of all kinds of sassy geekitude! I would so rock these.

Spied on Geek-lee-tist, these custom-made hand-painted Star Wars shoes are the handiwork of Holly Grothues on Etsy. I bow to her greatness – of painting ability, and geek-lovin’ creativity.

What I love is that she’s not married to Star Wars – she’s totally geek-friendly:

“I can do pretty much ANYTHING, from geekery (Harry Potter, LOTR, Star Wars, Star Trek, The Hunger Games, etc.) other movies, animes, video games, etc. to general designs (stripes, polka dots, etc.), personalization (quotes, names, etc.) you name it!”

I would have a hard time choosing between Star Trek images and some Firefly quotes, but you can bet I’m going to start looking for the right pair of fabric-based heels!

And you? What custom order would you request for your own geek-tastic heels?

Not your average egg

I just  found these absolutely adorable egg cozies over on Craftster! What a great way to decorate an Easter egg without having dyed finger tips and impatient little ones who just want to hunt eggs rather than carefully dipping.

Balatong discusses briefly how she made them and it is a great starter project for anyone who wants to step slowly into making and creating their own amigurumi. The only difference would be the stuffing inside, polyfil or egg?

D&D Monster Man, and D12 Dice Bag pattern

While clicking around on StumbleUpon, my son recently stumbled upon this little beauty – a wonderfully entertaining 4-1/2 minute video of Brad Knight, the self-proclaimed D&D Monster Man. He does impressions of what he imagines Dungeons & Dragons monsters sound like. I certainly can’t refute him.

D&D Monster Man Brad Knight

While imaginative, his impression talent is not very crafty, so I dug up a D&D-inspired craft to share, complete with tutorial: the d12 Handbag (of Holding) from Evil Mad Scientist Labs.

Perfect for an impromptu RPG session, or a night on the town, this DIY dodecahedron will make you the envy of geeks and fashionistas alike.

Twinkie Chan’s Crochet Goodies for Fashion Foodies Book Review & Giveaway

Random.org has spoken and our winner is number 21, Cheryl J! Congrats!!

Twinkie Chan’s Crochet Goodies for Fashion Foodies is an all around adorable book. It’s colourful and fun to look at.

It’s well written and easy to follow. Twinkie Chan adds food flair even to the materials list which she calls “Ingredients”.

Don’t crochet and don’t have time to learn? Twinkie Chan has an Etsy shop where you can buy the finished pieces.

It was really hard to choose what to make so in the end I decided upon the Cupcake Hat. Who doesn’t love cupcakes? I really liked that it looks more complicated than it really is while keeping it interesting. It can easily be made up in a weekend or during the week to wear for the weekend! It’s so cute that you’ll want to wear it as often as you can.

I don’t want to give this book away, I love it, but alas, what’s a giveaway without something to give away? Let me know in the comments what your favourite sweet treat is along with your e-mail address by Tuesday, March 20 for your chance to win this super cute book!!

WHO likes Steampunk?

Steampunk owl

Slowly but surely, I can feel myself being drawn into all things steampunk, the literature, costuming and now adorable mechowls!

This little guy reminds me of Bubo from the original Clash of the Titans. Monsterkookies has managed to create an amazing owl that looks for all the World like it’s make completely of metal bits but he’s actually polymer clay! This just blows my mind.
