GeekCrafts Submission: Harry Potter Sharpie Mug

DIY Sharpie-decorated mugs

We received this as a submission, and what a cute project! I had no idea you could decorate ceramic coffee mugs with regular Sharpies! I love how bright the colors turned out and the adorable little Harry Potter face (complete with mini Gryffindor scarf collar!).

What would you draw on your coffee mug? A Star Trek insignia? The Star Wars Rebel Alliance logo? A couple of Portals?

Fun And Flirty Femme Joker

joker1I haven’t seem too much for cosplay here, but when I saw Callesto Fox’s femme fatale Joker, I thought she deserved a place among the geeks.

“This Femme Joker cosplay isn’t serious at all. It features cosplayer Callesto all dolled up in a mini-skirted version of Joker’s outfit based on his look in Arkham Asylum. The spats are a nod to one of Callesto’s other favorite Batman villains, Max Shreck.”

I mean, come on…look how pretty and flirty she is as The Joker! She might as well be an Easter egg, for as springy as she looks. Personally, I’d like to see a male version of Harley Quinn with her.

Callesto has a mostly private Facebook page, but you can check her out on Deviant Art. She’s also an awesome  Merida from “Brave.”

Dress like a Ewok

Dress like an Ewok

Why? Because Ewoks are awesome! Whether you fell in love with him in Return of the Jedi, or he stole your heart with his “Starcruiser, crash!” antics in Caravan of Courage, we all seem to have a soft spot for Wicket the Ewok – and now you can dress up like him too! (headstands and battling giant spiders optional)

Kristen Stevenson from TinyPurrs.com came up with this neat scoodie (that’s scarf and hoodie, don’tcha know?) pattern for all you crocheters out there and has released it as a free Ravelry download.

Needlefelted Spock

Needlefelted Spock

Everyone’s favorite Vulcan celebrated his 82nd birthday today! Or rather, Leonard Nimoy, the man behind the Vulcan did. Happy birthday Mr. Nimoy, and of course, live long and prosper. And that’s from the very handsome “Li’l Spock” as well! And the person who created Li’l Spock? Kay Petal, of Felt Alive. She’s a needle felting artist who creates the most amazing sculptural dolls. Be prepared to be blown away.

Nightmare Before Christmas Cake Balls

Nightmare Before Christmas Cake Balls

Geek-a-Bites author Nikki is a freelance illustrator from Austin, Texas. She gladly combines her love for pastry and pop culture. On her blog, you can find photographs of mouthwatering cookies, cake balls and fondant figures inspired by games, series and childhood classics.

Although I’d love to show every scrumptious craft she has created, I’m just going to feature the most recent one, a collection of Nightmare Before Christmas cake balls that Nikki submitted herself. Cake balls are a sort of oversized pop cakes without sticks, coated with chocolate, fondant or icing and often decorated. Yes, I never keep up with the baking trends either!

The balls look awfully detailed. They’d be perfect for a Halloween party or a birthday in my darker, teenage years. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but the tiny hills with the pumpkin patch and crescent moon are surely adorable!
