Cute and Cuddly Needlefelted Dalek

DalekOMG! Look at this adorable Dalek! I’m not sure I’ve ever used to words “adorable” and “Dalek” in the same sentence before.

As if he wasn’t cute enough, the banner just makes this.

Not only is it fabulous, there’s a tutorial to make your very own! Why stop at one? You could make thousands of them and help restore the Dalek  race.

Who Said Androids Can’t Be Cuddly?

Who said androids can't be cuddly?

Every home needs a little bit of warmth. A creative, perhaps even human factor. What’s a better way to enliven your room than to cover a plain old pillow with something pleasing to the eye, Fabi Phil at Etsy must have thought.

This adorable pillow cover features Data, our favorite android and crew member of the USS Enterprise in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Even though the amount of detail is well-done (notice the communicator and rank insignia!), the overall design is still very elegant. I can almost see my family sharing a couch with him!

If you still got some empty bed or chair to fill, make sure to check out the rest of the shop for more trekkie designs and some soft-looking anime and movie characters.

The Stuffed Weeping Angel

215180_17Feb13_photo_2-2

Just in time for Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary, the Weeping Angels have been crocheted, have been turned into Christmas tree toppers and even turned into costumes.  But now, Lanikins has taken the Weeping Angel from creator Steven Moffat to the next level….and it’s strangely cuddly.

Lanikins is a dollmaker by trade and owns the Etsy shop of the same name, as well as being a regular poster to Craftster. Typically, her posts on Craftster show off the pop culture poppets she’s made. Of her Weeping Angel, Lanikins said,

“”Blink’ is my favorite episode [of Doctor Who], so I decided that I needed to make a Weeping Angel poppet.  I thought, “Hey Lani, this should be a piece of cake!!!…I mean, it is just one color, right?!?!”  Oh, I was SO WRONG!!!!  I sat there, staring at the basic body pieces, and my mind started racing…how was I going to get those hands to stay on her face?  How was I going to pull of the wings?  And what about the hair?  I looked at her, and my thought was that when you look at a statue, their hair isn’t made from a different material, so for me, it had to be fabric.  I made several little worms, and after attaching them, I needle-sculpted it to make it look like hair…and stone.  After a lot of zoning out, some SERIOUSLY sore hands, and countless hours into this, here she is!!!”

For anyone interested in making their own Doctor Who character poppet, Good Cookie Creations has a free pattern available to use as your poppet base.

Dr. Who Craft: Doily of Rassilon

Dr. Who Doily of Rassilon

I have to admit I’m not enough of a Whovian to completely appreciate this project, but I do love the look of this crochet Doily of Rassilon. I think a set of them would be gorgeous framed.

According to Wikipedia:

Rassilon is a fictional character in the British science fiction television series Doctor Who. In the backstory of the programme, he was the founder of Time Lord society on the planet Gallifrey.

Reading the Wikipedia entry I see that there’s quite a bit to this Rassilon character. I really need to watch more Dr. Who. Do I start at the very beginning with Season 1, or is there a particular season you suggest I start with?

Who Wants to Knit-Along?

Doctor Who Scarf

Attention Who-vians (and friends and relatives of Who-vians)! As you probably know, a common geeky craft project is to knit the scarf that Tom Baker wore during his time as Dr. Who. We’ve featured several Dr. Who scarf projects here on GeekCrafts: the classic pattern, a beaded version, a minimalist painting, a Doctor Who Inspired Fibonacci Scarf, a pastel version, even a Jayne Cobb take on the Dr. Who colors.

I thought I’d let you know that the Facebook Group Geeks United in Crafts is doing a Dr. Who Scarf Knit-Along to kick off the new year. People are posting their yarn and needle choices, and sharing their progress on this iconic project. It’s been neat to see all the encouragement and support people are posting to the shared progress pics!

Have you attempted the Dr. Who scarf? Share links to your pattern of choice in the Comments!
