Dr. Who digital scrapbook kit by RetroDiva

Tracy Scherrer, aka RetroDiva, created this digital homage to Dr. Who. It includes digital scrapbook papers and elements to create all sorts of groovy Who-friendly paper crafts – don’t let the “scrapbooking” angle scare you away.

Perhaps this is just the kick in the pants you needed to host a Who-a-thon, so you can use this kit to create the invites? Or maybe you could use it to decoupage-decorate some canvas sneakers? Or maybe you know a big Who fan who needs a birthday card? What would you make with this kit?

Why not Zoidberg?

There’s a chill in the air, so why not Zoidberg? What’s not to like about this Doctor Zoidberg Balaclava from Om Nom Nom Studios. It keeps you warm, and it puts strange little dangly squid monsters in front of your mouth. Best yet, it is nearly half of a Halloween costume. All you need is some similar color mittens and a lab coat and you’re ready to stay warm at an outdoor party.

ExtermiCHECKMATE

Yeesh…cheesy title for the post this week, right? Sorry about that. I’ve had a looong weekend at the Small Press Expo in suburban Washington DC. But on the other end of that cheesy title folks is a double whammy: a chess set (gasp!) with a Doctor Who theme (wheee!)  I found this via the deviantart page of Eladin Skywalker, a sculptor who made all 32 pieces from scratch out of polymer clay. The piece breakdown is as follows:

Evil side:
King: The Master
Queen: Lady Cassandra
Bishops: Cybermen
Knights: Judoon & Sontaran
Rooks: Weeping Angels
Pawns: Daleks

Good side:
King: The Doctor (Ten)
Queen: Professor River Song
Bishops: Ood
Knights: Captain Jack Harkness & The Face of Boe
Rooks: Tardises
Pawns: Baby Adipose

Clone Wars shoes

Now this is my kind of party! After seeing a plethora of cool decoupaged shoes online, Amy Ratcliffe decided to host a “Nerd Shoe Craftacular” so she and her friends could try their hand at some of the projects. And pardon me for saying so, but I’d say the results are a SHOE-IN for geektastic delight.

A variety of geekdoms were represented, including Star Wars, Dr. Who, Game of Thrones, and comic book heroes, but I think my favorite project is this pair of Clone Wars pumps. Sublime.

Voom, Voom, Boing!

So say you have kids who love playing Star Wars, but you don’t want them to hurt themselves with whatever approximation of lightsabers they’ll create. Alternately, you might have fully grown friends or relatives who still like playing Star Wars, but, again, you still don’t want them to hurt themselves. Enter the pool noodle lightsaber. With nothing but pool noodles, a serrated knife, and three kinds of electrical/duct tape, Muddy Boots blogger Amy created safe-but-cool-as-hell lightsabers for her son and his birthday guests, then posted the handy-dandy tutorial so we can do the same. Additional photos and tutorials can be found around the interwebs, if Amy’s post isn’t enough for you.
