For today’s offering I have Charlene’s etsy store CreativeButterflyXOX.
She specialises in painting wooden peg dolls to be used as cake toppers and Christmas tree decorations.
In her store she has some delightfully geeky specimins, including Harry Potter, Star Wars, Ghostbusters and many super heroes.
She also has some nice Christmas bits and bobs in now, such as wreaths.
I highly recommend you check out Charlene’s store and see for yourself.
Okay, I know best-est isn’t a word, but it should be, because James Hance’s art is better than the best. If you haven’t checked him out yet, go see James Hance, Relentlessly Cheerful Art. He has turned his geeky craft into fine art, showcasing our favorite Muppets and cartoons.
His series Wookie the Chew combines Star Wars and Winnie the Pooh, and features amazing characters like Chrisolo Robin, Droidlet, and of course, Wookie the Chew.
I have a few of his prints, and one of his originals in my house, and I LOVE them. I’m still waiting for the Dr. Horrible/ Calvin and Hobbes cross over. (wink wink, nudge nudge.)
So check him out, and get inspired.
How about an amigurumi of wookie the chew? A parody of a parody. How great is that?
“Drummer, beat, and piper, blow,
Harper, strike, and soldier, go.
Free the flame and sear the grasses
Till the dawning Red Star passes.”
~ from Dragonflight, by Anne McCaffrey
Two weeks ago the world lost an amazing woman, one who had a profound impact on many people and forever changed the worlds of science fiction and fantasy. I will always have a place in my heart for Anne McCaffrey’s Dragonriders of Pern series, which I read, devotedly, throughout my teen years. In her honor, here are a few of my favorite crafty dragons from around the web:
Cthulhu Crochet and Cousins, a long-time favorite blog of mine, showcased a couple of adorable dragons, based on this (free!) pattern from Lucy Ravenscar on Ravelry. They aren’t strictly Pernese-style dragons, but they’re too adorable not to include!
And this one, by Craftster user Faren, is a two-fer: the adorable clay dragon caught my eye (oh how I want one!), but below it, you can also see an embroidered dragon flying across a painted map of Pern. That’s some serious fan-love!
Finally, there are these stuffed “shoulder dragons,” by Cheryl Simshauser, made to look like McCaffrey’s fire-lizards. I love the gold one! She seems to be looking right at you.
As many internet commenters have already said, “R.I.P. Ms. McCaffrey – Long May Your Dragons Fly!”
Today I would like to share with you the skills of a talented lady, Lydia Niziblian.
Here in her Shottlebop Store, among the many spectacular creations, she pays tribute to the delightfully geeky Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by bottling the Babel fish to provide us with “Instant Universal Translation”
It is available as a rocking necklace or as a awesome pair of earrings.
As well as making delightful bottled concoctions she also works with silver and gold to create unique handmade jewellery.
