Crocheted Sheldon

The Big Bang Theory is one of my absolute favorite shows, so I was incredibly excited to see this Crocheted Sheldon Cooper on the Craftster frontpage yesterday. Anne11 made him as a Christmas gift for a friend. He now hangs out at her friend’s office (I wonder if he plays computer games when people aren’t looking?). Anne11 combined two patterns to make the perfect Sheldon. I love the tee-shirt she picked for him. I want my own Sheldon!

Her timing for posting this couldn’t be better, since Jim Parsons (who plays Sheldon) won a Golden Globe last night for Best Actor in a Comedy Series.

Chemistry crayon wrappers

Need a gift for your favorite aspiring chemist? Or perhaps you’re just looking for a way to bring some color into your own chem lab? What you need is this set of chemistry labels for your crayons. Queinteresante sells these for sets of eight, sixteen, twenty-four, forty-eight, ninety-six, or one hundred twenty crayons!

Chemistry crayon wrappers
She explains:
This listing is for a set of 24 labels to stick in the crayons in a basic 24 pack of crayons so that while children are coloring, they are also exposed to the names of chemicals that will make those colors! So instead of thinking “I want green” they will think “I want Barium Nitrate Ba(NO3)2 Flame” and then when they take chemistry in high school and their teacher sets some gas on fire and it makes a green color and they ask the class what chemical it was your student will know it was Barium! Genius!

Genius for sure. I love these, and little kids are such sponges when they’re young… I’m sure some of this will stick with them for a long time. The wrappers are available through her etsy shop, or for those of you without etsy accounts, she’s made a separate website to sell from!

Fleece Dragon Age Plushies

Dragon Age dolls by eitanyaI’ve been eyeing Jo Roberts’s (AKA Etianya) amazingly detailed fleece plushies, hats, and scarves on DeviantART for a while now. Not just for their warm snuggliness, but because they are beautifully hand-crafted pieces of geek art.

She’s captured characters from video games such as Final Fantasy, Super Mario Bros., and World of Warcraft. The ones that stole this Bioware geek’s heart, though, were her Dragon Age: Origins plushies.

Not only has she made some adorable stand-alone dolls of party faves Alistair, Morrigan, and Zevran, she’s also indulged the romantic side of her clients by custom-making dolls of their Gray Warden with their tru wuv. Even sweeter, she’s designed them with magnets so they can kiss.

Say it with me: “D’aaaaw!”

Boba Fett Amigurumi

Amigurumi ain’t easy – at least they are more difficult if you don’t have a pattern.  I’ve personally been working on a prototype for a Boba Fett for my hubby since before his birthday in September (unsuccessfully, I might add).  Thankfully, Craftster user Angry Angel has not only created one cuter than I was even imagining, but she is also offering her pattern for him on her Etsy.  I can’t wait to create my own from this pattern so he can sit ominously in the corner of my living room while I work on making more amigurumis.  Perhaps a whole Boba Fett army, or maybe one of the other ten Star Wars characters available in LucyRavenscar’s Etsy shop!

Polymer Clay Nerdy Robot

"Polymer Clay Nerdy Robot"I am absolutely smitten with the polymer clay robots that Lisastarchild hand sculpts, especially this fabulous nerd love one! I came across her SleepyRobot13 shop on Etsy and fell in love. Her robot creations are charming and have wide ranging appeal to all sorts of nerds and geeks. She makes everything from a Batman Robot to a Zombie Robot. The Super Hero Robot (with glow-in-the-dark underpants!) and the 3-D Movie Robot are also adorable!

Felt Bacon Ornament

I realize that bacon isn’t exactly geeky. But it is delicious, and I imagine a lot of geeks love bacon, so I present to you Serena’s Felt Bacon Ornament.  It will make a  great last minute Christmas gift, if you didn’t get your bacon scented car air freshener in time. There is a full tutorial on her blog, including how to make it smell like real bacon!
