Accio Freezer Paper! Harry Potter Craft

Harry Potter freezer paper stencil tshirt by Kacey Kendrick Wagner

I love surfing about the interwebs and happening upon geeky crafts. I feel an immediate kinship with the person – here’s someone who’s both crafty AND geeky, like me! And when – BONUS! – they include a step-by-step tutorial, I do a little happy dance. Kacey at Stay at Home Artist provided just such an example with her Harry Potter Freezer Paper Stencil t-shirt tutorial.

With her step-outs, even if you aren’t crazy-graphically-gifted like Kacey (that script text! that stag!), you can still pump out a cool t-shirt that pays homage to whatever fandom trips your trigger. What fandom would you choose and what would you stencil? Have you tried freezer paper stenciling? What were your results? So many questions!

High Fashion, Yet Practical and Durable

Over at Reddit and Imgur, kogenesis86 posted a gift he made for a female friend: a big old barrel of Chanel nightstand, complete with storage space, two USB ports and a wall outlet for a lamp!

chanel bedroom barrel

The logo is a vinyl sticker with some paint. The latches at the top were added to the barrel by kogenesis86. One of the Imgur commentors had an excellent point to make: don’t go out and get a used barrel, because you don’t know if there was anything flammable in it. Go buy a new one. And someone else did the math for us: 55 gallons of Chanel No. 5 Parfum would cost $2,255,474.54.

Knit Some Chewie Mittens

So there is a movie franchise that is getting more movies . Something about a long time ago in a galaxy far away. Or so I’ve heard.  Raverly Designer Therese Sharp has designed a pair of Chewie Mittens.  With SDCC happening right now and more cons approaching, what better then knitting some geek love? The pattern is available on Raverly.

Grumpy Cat Shrink Plastic Chandelier Earrings

grumpy cat earrings

Anyone who reads my posts here know that I love Tardar Sauce (aka Grumpy Cat). I Sew Cute, from Ohio, posted a great Craftster tutorial on how to make Grumpy Cat “Skrinky Dink” earrings, and the process is simple enough that the steps can be transferred to making any kind of characters into earrings (I’m thinking some Zachary Quinto Spock earrings might be cool to have!).

And despite working with the oven, this could be a good craft to do with your younger girls, by having them pick their subject and doing the cutting themselves.

Are You Feeling Sherlocked?

Knickertwist over at Craftster posted two awesome BBC version Sherlock crafts that demand to be shared.

First up, her 221B Baker Street Altoid Tin.

You really need to go to her original post, linked above, to see the amazing job Knickertwist did on creating the tiny interior of 221B Baker Street! Let’s just say that it inlcudes furnishings SMALLER than a penny, all of them handmade! But she wasn’t done just yet.

She started getting requests to BUY her tiny little handmade apartment. And she just couldn’t part with it. So, she created a tutorial on how to create your very own (even smaller) 221B Baker Street from a matchbox!

And if you need more of a Knickertwist fix, check out her Pixie Hill blog.
