Your Ultimate Convention Going Checklist

RoTardisGownDalek02

Convention season is approaching (actually, I’ve got three cons this month!), and I’ve put together a checklist for con-goers getting ready to go to their next convention. If you’ve never been to pop culture convention, or even if you’ve been to dozens, it’s always good to be prepared. Check out the list of things to take and even research before going so you can have the best con experience ever. There’s even a downloadable version of the checklist, including tips for cosplayers!  Do you have any advice for folks getting ready to go to their next convention? Share them with us in the comments or on FB!

Upcycle Old Comics Into Cool Jewelry

ModPodge_bracelet

I got some great free comic books over the last year, and now that I’ve read them, I don’t have a burning desire to keep them.  But I hate to just throw them away.  I mean, the artwork is cool. So I turned to Pinterest for ideas on what to do with old comics, and ran across this great tutorial by Shala on Don’t Eat the Paste. You can make your own stylish, one-of-a-kind bracelet using old comics, Mod Podge, and a bracelet blank.  Shana’s got step-by-step instructions along with pictures that make creating this jewelry masterpiece a snap. Isn’t Mod Podge glorious? I’ve seen great examples of using comics on furniture, shoes, and even coasters.

Make Your Own Terrarium

Terrarium

I’ve been seeing really fun geek-themed terrariums on Pinterest lately, but not a lot of detailed how-to’s. Though it’s pretty easy to make a terrarium, it turns out you don’t just want to throw some sand and rocks in a jar and decorate with air plants, moss, and a few minis.  That is, if you want your plants to actually thrive any way.  So I tracked down a few generic terrarium making tutorials, including the great image above from the blog Something Turquoise. Another blog, Food 52, has great step-by-step instructions on making a terrarium as well. Once you’ve got those basics down, you can decorate your terrarium with any fandom you like. And there are tons of ideas out there.  Here are a FEW of my personal favorites!

The official starwars.com has got this awesome Degobah Terrarium, with instructions.

MossLoveDoctorWhoTerrarium

This terrarium is for sale on Moss Love.

Moss+Love+-+Zombie

This Zombie Terrarium is also for sale on Moss Love. I ADORE this idea.

What fandom themed terrarium would you create?

Make Your Own BB-8 Perler Bead Cord Keeper

aftb-bb8-cord-keeper-title

It can be so easy to lose those tiny earbuds, so why not make a cute BB-8 cord keeper to keep track of them in style? I found this quick tutorial by Allison Waken on her blog All For The Boys.  It’s a simple project, and for the more adventurous, it would be easy to to adapt for other designs, just in case this isn’t the droid you were looking for.
