Tutorial Tuesday: Portal Laptop/Tablet Sleeve

Working at this blog has taught me something.

People LOVE crafting Portal related goodies! Here’s another one.

Craftster member Diranasaurus used SewMamaSew’s free tutorial to make her boyfriend a portal themed Nook sleeve.

Star Trek laptop cozy

Star Trek laptop cozyLest you think I’m only all about Star Wars and Firefly, I thought I would feature some Star Trek love this week. And so I bring you a Laptop Cozy adorned with the Enterprise crew.

Katie at Punk Projects whipped this together as a home for her new laptop, where I believe it will be quite happy. Please note the apt name of her laptop – Voyager.

I wonder if she also installed a theme that speaks to her in Majel Barrett’s voice, a la the ship’s computer?

Floppy Disk Laptop Bag

Floppy Disk Laptop BagWho just got a new MacBook?!  That’s right…. this girl!!!   Naturally, that means it is time to outfit my new toy with decals, and cases, and accessories (oh my!)  So strolling the internets for new things to buy, I found this laptop bag made out of floppy disks.  A-mazing!  Although I don’t know how heavy or bulky it is to carry about, it sure looks really awesome…  Great work Stanislav

Just for the record, the disks in this case total 60.48MB  :)

Fan-tab-stic Chain Mail

I own a purse made from soda pop tops (or pull tabs or whatever you want to call them). It’s somewhere between this Socorro design (it’s a shoulder bag) and the Masha design (not a messenger bag, but it has a flap closure). I did not, however, pay upwards of $100—I lucked out and bought it at Goodwill for a mere $8. Best. Purchase. Ever.

So I’ve been thinking about other things one might make out of soda tabs, and it appears I’m not alone. There are projects galore (complete with handy tutorials) geared toward both fashion plates and Ren Faire nerds. Thought it’d be worth posting a roundup of some of the more interesting projects and different techniques I’ve come across thus far. Oh, and they all seem quite manageable, as long as you have patience and access to a vast quantity of pop tops. Here are a few of my favorites:
