Did you know that June 16th is recognized by Star Trek fans as Captain Picard Day? According to Memory Alpha:

Captain Picard Day was an annual event held aboard the USS Enterprise-D for the ship’s schoolchildren. Activities included a contest, judged by Captain Jean-Luc Picard himself, in which the children created paintings and models of the captain. Picard was himself not very fond of the event, as he generally did not respond well to children.

Warp Speed Galaxy Shirt

While I have a fondness for a variety of fandoms, I would probably have to say I am most fond of Star Trek. There’s just so much to love! That’s why I was drawn to this Warp Speed Galaxy Shirt project by Katie Smith at Punk Projects.

Her tutorial looks so easy – a couple of spritzes of bleach on a black t-shirt, some dabs of paint, a speedy little Enterprise and boom, you’re off to seek out new life and new civilizations!

I love how subtle it is – you’d really have to look for that little Enterprise, but for the trained eye, it would be like an Easter Egg on a shirt. :)

A fun related note – Katie is already known for her Star Trek crafts, as seen in her Star Trek Christmas ornaments project I have previously featured. She also contributed the Starfleet Uniform Apron project (p 80) to my Star Trek Crafts book!

DIY Dinosaur Plant Markers

Spring is finally approaching! It’s time to get out spades from the shed and focus on a gardening craft.

Besides strawberries and rhubarb, I have never managed to get anything past the state of seed, but for those who can’t keep their cauliflowers from their broccoli, I present you these Dinosaur Plant Markers. An Early Christmas Gift: Star Trek Ornaments

Fresh on the heels of the announcement that J.J. Abrams has officially signed on to direct ‘Star Trek 2’, I bring you another gift – Star Trek ornaments, a la Katie at Punk Projects.

Delightful in their simplicity, these Star Trek ornaments go together easy-peasy-quick. Which means you can put a significant dent in that stash of bottlecaps and Scrabble letter tiles that *some* scrapbookers might have laying about (not pointing any fingers, and certainly not at myself!)

Might I add how much I love that Katie has a whole Christmas tree dedicated to Star Trek, AND a peg people Nativity scene??

Star Trek laptop cozy

Lest you think I’m only all about Star Wars and Firefly, I thought I would feature some Star Trek love this week. And so I bring you a Laptop Cozy adorned with the Enterprise crew.

Katie at Punk Projects whipped this together as a home for her new laptop, where I believe it will be quite happy. Please note the apt name of her laptop – Voyager.

I wonder if she also installed a theme that speaks to her in Majel Barrett’s voice, a la the ship’s computer?
