Reader Submission: Replica of Gehn’s Crest from Riven

I was never hardcore enough to finish Riven, I remember hours of sitting behind my older brother watching him play Myst, and then when Riven came out I was embarrassed to find that my computer gaming skills still sucked… I’ve always been more of a spectator when it comes to first person games…

This is what genius metalcrafter Riv says about her work:
“I’m so excited to have finally combined my absolute love of the Myst series and my obsession with making stuff out of metal. The games have shaped my aesthetic immensely, and I’m driven always by the desire to make an object that feels as real as Riven felt to me. Here, I think I’ve succeeded.”

Bub & Bob Perler Bead Sprites

Bub & Bob Perler Bead SpritesI love Bubble Bobble.  It is one of those games that I always plan to go back and actually beat, and whenever I try to sit down to try I almost immediately give up.  It is SO hard.  The game designers, I am convinced, actually hate me specifically.

Erin Klarer of EEKgiftshop on Etsy reminds me of my constant failure with these adorable Bub and Bob sprites done with perler beads.  I have seen a few Bubble Bobble sprites in my day, but I like that these ones are actually in their bubbles.  Very cute.

Scrabble Tile Jewelry by Laura Mac

laura_mac_jewelry

Though there are numerous crafters out there upcycling old Scrabble tiles into jewelry, my favorite is Baltimore-based artist Laura MacDougall. She takes Scrabble tile jewelry to the next level, from fun and kitchy to, well, elegant.

Each Scrabble tile pendant showcases one of Laura’s beautiful nature photographs. It’s then strung up with semi-precious stones, making a piece that you’d be proud to wear out to a special event. My favorite is this striking peacock feather necklace.

She’s also been thinking outside the box (if you’ll pardon the pun) and experimenting with round pendants, which lend themselves well to her photography.

If you’re not into jewelry, Laura also makes simple yet lovely book thongs, which are perfect for that beach-blanket read this summer.

Pac Man Ukulele

Pac Man UkuleleWhen I am not playing Video Games, I tend to dabble in a lot of different things.  One of those things that took my fancy was the Ukulele, due in no small part to a Youtube Video of one of the most talented Ukulele players of our time.

So when I stumbled on this Pac Man Ukulele by celentanowoodworks on Etsy I knew I had to share it with all of you.  It is just too cool.  It took me a while to really piece together what I was seeing.  It’s Pac Man, the fret markings are like power pellets, and the head is a ghost.  It’s like Pac Man was always supposed to be a ukulele, and now HE IS!

Link Felt Collage

So I’ve had video games on the brain lately. As such, I knew I wanted to find a super unique video game craft to share with you.

Thanks to the talented Etsian pixl pshr I found it. I have NEVER seen anything like this. They take ordinary felt and turn it into totally awesome art! Each square is hand cut and assembled by them. Crazy fun!
