Reader Submission: Vocaloid Magnet Cosplay

I’m going to admit right now that I’m not cool enough to be aware of Vocaloid, and if you are similarly clueless I suggest you go educate yourself.

Sherry from miccostumes.com upcycled an old wedding dress to make a Vocaloid Magnet costume.

If you’re sat there behind your computer monitor going “OMG Squueeeeee =^.^= <3 <3 <3 Vocaloid!!!! <3” then you’re in luck, as Sherry has shared a how-to here.

Superheroes are for girls, too!

Superheroes are for girls too
Image from girlslovesuperheroes.tumblr.com

Can I get a “Heck, yeah!”? I found this awesome inspiring Tumblr site that I just had to share: Superheroes are for girls, too.

Its sole purpose is to highlight “pictures of girls dressed as superheroes, playing with superheroes toys, or reading superhero comics”.

I love the idea of encouraging young girls with positive role models of strong female superheroes, and the idea of providing an online forum for giving these girls an “Atta Girl!” for strutting their stuff. I also love how happy the girls are in the pictures, as well as how “tough” they are.

Let’s hear it for girl power! Who are your favorite strong female role models in superhero-land?

Tutorial Tuesday: R2D2 Lamp

Instructables contributor Nylanan put together this amazing tutorial on how to transform an old silver lamp into an  homage to our favourite comedy sidekick droid, R2D2.

lets have 3 random facts about R2D2:

  1. The actor that played him (Kenny Baker) actually REALLY didn’t get on with the actor that played C3po (Anthony Daniels). In-fact to this day they’ve got a really rocky relationship…
  2. Kenny Baker actually had rude pictures of ladies stuck to the inside of the helmet of his costume (!!!) to keep him amused during the long hours of filming!! SHOCKING!!
  3. A couple of months ago I went to a convention called “Collectormania” in Milton Keynes and saw Kenny Baker chasing* a guy dressed in Storm Trooper armour trying to hit him with his walking stick! The storm trooper turned around and said “That’s not very nice” and Kenny Baker’s handler replied “well , you did try to kill him!” – priceless!!

*well he uses a wheelchair now, so he was being pushed by a handler, which made the whole scene even more surreal!

Padme and Leia Barbie Costumes.

STOP THE PRESSES!!!

A whole cartload of AWESOME was just unloaded over at Burdastyle. I have seen some AWFUL barbie costumes in my time, and to be fair, most of them are made my small children so I shouldn’t be so judgemental. But I am.

These are the things that Star Wars Barbie dreams are made of.

Burdastyle community member Morgan (lanternwaste33) has uploaded her stash of Padme Amidala and Princess Leia Barbie costumes.

The accuracy, detail and craftsmanship are certainly worth a look!

(Not to mention the pretty pretty dresses *fangirl squee*)

If you’ve got a chance you should also check out Morgan’s studio on Burdastyle She and her sister Allison have made some awesome people sized Star Wars Costumes too.
