Reader Submmission: Pop Tab Prom Dress

In an effort to give you guys out there in the GeekCrafting Community the recognition you deserve, I’m now helping to post some of your awesome reader submissions! so don’t forget to hit us up using the ‘submit a geekcraft’ link at the top of the page if you make something you think we’d like to see!!

Proud father Steve Pozek sent us some lovely pictures of his (stunning) daughter Maura Pozek who created a truly unique prom dress. Looking at the full length picture (right) you don’t quite get the scope of how awesome this dress truly is. Yes, look closely, this prom dress is woven out of pop tabs, ribbon – and, I’m guessing – a whole lotta blood, sweat and tears.

This mammoth undertaking has also been recognised by local press!

Full respect to Maura and the time, effort, concentration, planning and precision it must’ve taken to weave this masterpiece.

I think I can hear my sewing machine needle breaking just looking at that side seam!

Introducing Angie

Angie Pedersen, Geek CrafterGeeky greetings! I’m Angie and I’m joining the League of DIY Superheroes here at GeekCraft. Like others on our team of crafty reporters, I love both crafting and all things geek, and have a particular fondness for Star Trek, the Whedonverse, and comic books. I’m “multi-craftual” – scrapbooking (paper & digital), crochet, knitting, and a little sewing – and I admit I might drive my family a little nuts with my many projects and ever-encroaching stash. But really, my hobbies are more endearing than annoying. And I have sworn to use my crafting superpowers only for good. :)

I love surfing around for crafty inspiration, so I’m really looking forward to sharing all sorts of geeky goodness with you!

Epic Mario Quilt!!

There is no other no other word for this mario quilt than EPIC!… and as someone who works with teenage children I use that word sparingly!

cheerupem0kidx0x started the Mario theme room thread on craftster back in July 2010! and since then has been keeping us updated, as she created the bob-omb lamp, pipe waste paper bin, NES cartridge clock, papier mache fire flower, papier mache boo… just seriously… there’s no way I can list everything this amazing geek crafter has made just go look at the thread.

Since there was lots of work in progress included on this thread, it’s a treasure trove of how-to’s, tutorials and fabulous crafting ideas (you will NOT BELIEVE how easy it is to make .a bob-omb lamp!)

I think we can all agree, her son is a very lucky guy!

The stuff she made is great, but the quilt is just AMAZING (and I’m not one for quilting…. at all… if I’m going to sit at a sewing machine for hours there’d better be a dress at the end of it!) It’s a result of 5 months work and it’s paid off big style!

New to the Crew

Hello out there! Now that the frenzy of the holidays has wound down, I can take a breath, break out my crafts, and properly introduce myself as one of the new members of the Geek Crafts crew.

I’m Sherezada, an indie filmmaker and writer. I’ve been a card-carrying geek since I was a kid. Some of my favorites include the original Star Wars trilogy, J.R.R. Tolkien, video games (especially BioWare-made games), horror-comedy films, and comic books.  

I love showing my geek pride through my needlework, like this piece I stitched up of Nibbler from Futurama, and my Han Solo cross stich sampler. I also dabble in knitting and sewing, though I’m still getting the hang of both.
