Sharknado 4 Watch Party Food Idea

It’s almost here: Sharknado 4! I’ve been slowly getting ready for this weekend, and I thought I’d share with you a little of what I’ve been up to, including this free printable I’ve designed for serving up some fun Sharknado themed snacks.

I’ll freely admit my design is more fun than functional. And, I was heavily inspired by this AWESOME, free printable Shark Bait Snack Cups at MyPrintly.com.

I’m also going to try this popcorn recipe for the watch party I’m going to. I thought Nerd Love Maggie’s Shark Bait Ocean Party Popcorn Mix looked pretty tasty, though I think I might substitute red candy melts instead of white. What’s Sharknado party food without a little gore, right?

Upcycled Ant Man Helmet

Mikaela Holmes, a costume and experimental fashion designer and artist, and currently an in-house content creator for the Instructables Design Studio, recently posted her directions for an upcycled Ant Man helmet over at Instructables.

This Ant Man helmet is literally made out of stuff that was lying around her studio, strategically painted, glued and duct taped together. It’s not a very hard project, and you don’t need any fancy tools to make it. And the best part about this helmet is that you’re not required to have specific items to make it. In fact, Mikaela gives alternatives for a variety of different parts. And let me know if anyone can get their hands on some Pym Particles…I’m just asking…for a friend.

Make Your Own Cosplay Fox Tail

That cool fox tail is made entirely from . . . . yarn! And all you need is a pet brush, a hair straightener, a pair of scissors, and (of course) yarn. Just hop on over to Jennifer’s DIY Fox Tail Tutorial on her blog iSaveAtoZ and check out her detailed instructions and pictures. She uses the same technique for a Wolf Tail Tutorial as well. It seems to me this technique could be used for pony tails too!

This Dad Takes Cosplay to A Whole New World!

I saw this on BuzzFeed and knew I had to share it. This dad started out in fashion design, but discovered a whole new world in cosplay for his kids (and he and his wife too!). He started by making a Fairy Godmother costume for his daughter to wear to Disney World, and it seems to have snowballed from there. My favorite? The Belle peasant gown that transforms into her ballgown right in front of your eyes. Seriously.

How incredibly cool is that? You may need to watch that a couple times, that transformation is so fast.

Let’s Go, Bub! A Wolverine Build

DancinFool82, of The Armored Garage, recently unveiled his Wolverine costume at Emerald City Comicon, in a series of photos over on Imgur. He designed it based on Batman’s suit in Arkham Knight Origins.

IN starting out with the chest, he traced out the parts in Photoshop. He loaded that image up in 3d studio max and traced out the shapes with geometry, and then loaded that geometry in a program he wrote himself, Armorsmith, to get the final adjustable templates that could be printed out on paper. To then get the clean bevel on the foam pieces, DancinFool82 used a technique called undercutting which involves cutting a channel on the underside of the foam and then filling that channel with hot glue and bending the foam. In order to get the nice rounded look, he used a Dremel to grind away the outer edge of the foam and get a nice soft curve. Then he hit the pieces with a heat gun and shaped them just a little bit to make them look more curved.

Jedi Elsa Rey At Wizard World Comic Con

This spunky little mash-up cosplayer, Stormie, has been making the internet rounds lately. As a member of the Rebel Legion, I couldn’t really pass her up!

Her father made her a Jedi Elsa Rey costume, and a friend made her staff, to wear to the Wizard World Con in Des Moines, IA. And the friend even customized a little Lego set for her!

The 19-city Wizard World tour added Des Moines to its list last year, and thanks to a startling turnout, it was back for more.

I think this is a post where anything I write isn’t going to really capture the cuteness of this kid or her con-experience. Just go check out the images her dad posted to Imgur. You won’t regret it.
