Marvel-ous Kids Furniture Renovation

I’ve mentioned before the fantastic geek fabrics that are becoming more readily available, both online or in local fabric stores. Every day I see new fun prints that make my fingers itch to get geek-crafty.

I recently spotted this fun dresser and lamp re-do by Melissa Nieves, and it has me salivating over the fabric, AND eyeing the furniture in my house for possible makeovers. I’m sure the superhero in her life was super-pleased with her results, too!

I actually got a couple yards of the bottom two prints and plan to make matching skirt-scarf sets out of them – just searching for the right pattern. What fun new geek fabrics have you spied recently, and what do you plan to make? Let us know in the comments below!

If you love Harry Potter, you’ll love this free embroidery pattern and tutorial from Beverly at Flamingo Toes! You can solemnly (or otherwise) be up to no good and make your own 8″ hoop art piece. Beverly gives step-by-step instructions and photos, and she even talks you through distressing the final piece so it looks aged, just like that Marauder’s Map!

It’s not too early for Halloween Costume Ideas!

I just got to see the Minion movie this weekend (laugh-out-loud-adorable, by the way) and thought I’d share this epic Minion Halloween Costume tutorial with you all.  Linda from Craftaholics Anonymous posted this one a couple of years ago, but given the recent movie, I imagine Minions will be super popular this year.  Plus, I think it’d be pretty easy to adapt these patterns to adult sizes, if you’re of the adventurous type.

Ink Grandma Would Approve Of

The crafting community and tattoo world collide in this brilliant woman’s unique take on ink art. Eva Krbdk is the Turkey-based tattoo artist who took her love of cross-stitch and transformed the canvas for the needlework from fabric to the human body.

Although some of you out there may not be familiar with cross-stitch, you most likely have seen these little works of embroidery before without even knowing it. This form of counted-thread embroidery’s signature look is the x-shaped patterns that the images are created with.

Krbdk’s use of the x-pattern in tattoos gives the images a captivating pixilation, for an entirely new aesthetic. You can see her innovative cross-stitch designs on her Instagram account, along with her prolific collection of equally beautiful tattoo art.

An Afghan from Far, Far Away
