1 Up Mushroom Quilt

Craftster user shan-E-bear made this “Mario 1up mushroom quilt of doom!” and it looks so cool! She said: “I was flipping through all the wonderful quilty and non quilty creations and I stumbled upon a mario pixel quilt, the husband who was playing video games behind me, went “awesome!” hence the birth of our first quilt together! And I did make him help!” I love how pixelated games translate so well into crafts like quilting, because then we get awesome stuff like this!

Chibi Carmine Charm Necklace

chibi carmine charmIf asked to describe the characters from the popular Gears of War video game series, “cute” would not be the first adjective that pops into my mind. Macho? Yes. Beefy?  Yes. Adorable? No.

Well, Etsy store Wonderland Contraband is changing that image just a little bit with their tough-yet-sweet version of Private Anthony Carmine.

The charm stands less than four centimeters tall, but is chock-full of carefully rendered details.  I can’t get over how the artist, Shiela, made a weapon like the lancer actually look cute, even when spattered in blood!

I’d love to see the rest of Delta Squad in chibi-charm form. It’d make a great bracelet to wear to a Gears of War 3 release party later this year.

Hand-Made Wiz-War Board Game

Wiz War boardI’ve long admired folks with the skill and patience to make their own scenery for table-top games, though I’ve never had the chance to play with someone with the space or time to go the whole nine yards.

I first saw this incredible Wiz-War board game a few years ago. Don’t be fooled by the professional look of the scenery; it wasn’t manufactured in a factory. This is a hand-made labor of love constructed by Hirst Arts Fantasy Architecture, a mom-and-pop operation run by Bruce and Joanne Hirst.

Not only do they create and sell molds for crafty gamers to make their own scenery, they have detailed tutorials (including videos) on how to use their molds to make impressive sets. It’s like Legos, taken to the next level!

The Wiz-War board stood out to me because the original game, as packaged, is all cardboard tiles and pieces. To see it blown up in beautiful 3-D detail is amazing, and makes me wish I had the space in my wee apartment to house such an impressive board.
