Teeny Little Super Guy

Remember him? “You can’t judge a hero by his size. He’s just a teeny little super guy.”

I was thinking about him the other day, (we were watching some old school Sesame Street) I thought, wouldn’t it be awesome to have one of those cups? Then I thought, I’m sure I could find one on Etsy.

Guess what? NO! No teeny super guy on Etsy! I couldn’t believe it! Everything is on there. So I had to make one myself. I’m not a great painter, but he’s not too bad for a first try.

Here’s what you do:

  1. Get paint for glass. I thought I did, but I ended up getting just plain acrylic. It’s not durable, or washable, but if you just want to keep it on a shelf it’s fine. You need Yellow, Red, Tan, and Black.
  2. Print out the little super guy, or draw him freehand (what I did) on a piece of paper.
  3. Put the paper inside the glass. Now just paint in the lines.

That’s all. It only took a few minutes. I made him on a mason jar, and I use him as a piggie bank on the top of my fridge. I sing the song every time I put a coin in. Now you can have your own little super guy.

Everything Alice Book Review, Craft and Giveaway!

***Update! We have a winner! bunnysmommy!! Congrats!***

When I heard that there was an Alice book to review I jumped at the chance, and begged. I have loved everything Alice (how fitting!) my whole life.Everything Alice: The Wonderland Book of Makes & Bakes by Hannah Read-Baldrey and Christine Leech is a truly beautiful book. Even if you aren’t crafty but love Alice, this would still be a good book to own as the pictures and projects are stunning.I actually made two projects from Everything Alice to show you. The first one is so simple, even a non crafter can do it. No, really. It’s called Dress Me Alice and White Rabbit. This project is so simple, that you can even cheat a little, which I totally did. They say to copy the pictures and then glue them onto thin cardboard. I simply copied them onto white cardstock and cut out the middle man. The downside to this is that you really have to bend the spine to get the book to lay flat enough to copy it without shadows and stuff on the sides.

Paper dolls but even more fabulous!

I also made the Cheshire Cat handwarmer. I sewed it by hand and you can tell I am by no means a seamstress. It was fun to make though so that really is all that matters. I’m going to actually keep mine in the freezer for headaches.

The Cheshire Cat is my favourite character in the books so that project was a no-brainer. Now, for a chance to win your very own copy of this book let me know in the comments who your favourite Alice character is. One winner will be chosen at random on Feb. 13.

One Does not Simply Quilt Mordor

One Does not Simply Quilt Mordor One must start at the beginning with The Hobbit.  Which is what Jennifer Ofenstein has done with Fandom in Stitches latest long-term project, There and Back Again.

Also pictures is The Road designed by Lilja Björk Sigurdórsdóttir.

Haven’t started yet? Not a problem, each month, the links are there to previous patterns released for you to access and download to work on at your leisure. The project is a collaborative effort between four Fandom in Stitches designers, Michelle Thompson, Lilja Björk Sigurdórsdóttir, Schenley Pilgram, and Jennifer Ofenstein. One Does not Simply Quilt Mordor

Dalek Victory!

Dalek Victory

This one is more like a victory over the Daleks with its detail and accuracy. It’s an amazing cross stitch Shae made of the Daleks’ Victory poster from Season 6 of Doctor Who. Not only has she managed to chart and stitch this out, but Shae was kind enough to share the charts for this cross stitched poster here.

Shae is a multitalented crafter who also does machine embroidery and paper piece quilting among others. Her crafting can also be found in her Etsy shop, ShaeWow. You might want to be aware that her items sometimes have adult phrases on them but she has items from various fandoms and in different media.

He Sees You When You’re Crafting

He sees you...

I know this has been rattling around the interwebs for ages now (three years in internet time is rather more like three decades in the real world), but, astonishingly, it has never made an appearance on Geek Crafts. Until now, that is.

Thus may I present to you papercraft ceiling cat. Per the directions, I whipped one up myself and was highly amused by the results…though it would have been more effective if I’d actually managed to stick him on the ceiling. I’m quite short, even with the aid of ladders. (Note: for a slightly more impressive result, I’d suggest enlarging the design by about 25%.)

Steampunk Advent Calendar

As crackling fires and bowls of eggnog begin to fill our chilly nights, I wanted to share this stunning advent calendar created by mixed-media artist Amy Rozeboom. Rozeboom got the calendar itself from a local hobby shop, and the design elements come from Alpha Stamps, where Ms. Rozeboom is a member of the design team.

Most of the gears come from Tim Holtz and the papers are part of the Graphics 45 Steampunk Debutante line (I think I drooled a little bit on my keyboard when I checked that website out, I have a thing for paper). I’m excited to try something similar for Christmas 2012.

I’m torn as to what my favorite square is. I love the numbers in 21, the paper on 10, and the gears on number 8. Of course, the entire piece works together beautifully and I always admire people who can work in mixed-media this way. If this appeals to you, be sure to check out Amy’s website and Flickr photo stream. She’s got some really breath-taking stuff up there.

What do you think, readers? Got a favorite square?
