Awesome Knight helmet

Okay, okay bear with me.  I’m still working on my kid’s 4th birthday party, and I came across this awesome posterboard knight helmet tutorial on an English website (leave it to the English to have perfected the art of papercrafting a knight’s helmet!)  I was a little hesitant to make it because it seemed super complicated, but I did it, and it came out SUPER cute, and only took 5 minutes.  So, this ones for anyone who has a knight-loving tyke out there.  Check out the tutorial.

Tutorial Tuesday: Hollow Book Giftbox!

I just love the secret agent element to Franki’s hollowed out book tutorial.

If you’re giving a friend a gift in one of these home-made giftboxes, I wholeheartedly suggest you wear a mac and dark glasses meet aforementioned friend in a park at dusk. “You’ve never seen me, right!?” haha.

But seriously I’d love to make something like this as jewelery box…. excellent idea!

Final Fantasy Scarf

Final Fantasy ScarfI have many fond memories of playing Final Fantasy on the original Nintendo Entertainment System, and of never actually finishing the game.  I eventually did finish the game, when I was in my early twenties, but I can remember always reaching the point where I would get my Airship and then be devastated by the opportunities before me.  There was so much I could do, and so I did nothing.

Now I can relive my indecision with this amazing scarf by doctormoo on Etsy, featuring all of your favorite sprites from the original game.

Go see the scarf now!

Beast’s Rose

Beauty and the Beast is quite clearly the booknerd’s Disney film of choice, if for nothing more than the scene where he gives her a library. Best present ever. Plus (factoid of the week) the music is by the same guys who wrote Little Shop of Horrors.  Awesome, right?

FongTrooper over at the Replica Props Forum has made this amazing replica of the floating rose that acts as The Beast’s countdown timer. It’s a pretty simple make – an artificial rose suspended by invisible thread inside a bell jar, but it’s a lovely idea for a gift.

One for the Biology Geeks!

Today I have searched the digital shelves of Etsy for something to delight the biology geeks. And I found the wonderful works of Anatomolgy. She creates jewellery based around body parts. My favourite is this heart pictured but she also features bones, brains, neurons, synapses and some atoms for the chemistry lovers among us. I recommend you check her out, I shall be dropping hints with the boyfriend for my birthday!
